What would be a cheap long term storage solution? for pictures, family vids, etc...

same here... my storage getting smaller also since I have a lot also jpeg,video files especially every vecation or outing, I manage my files by compress/resize or edit remove that are not good shots and save only the best and finished/edited videos for keeps. BTW I stored file from 2-3 smaller capacity 2.5 HDD instead of 3.5 1 big capacity if it fails I still have others. in which I already had dilima with my 3.5HDD with bigger capacity which wont detect/open even I use it seldom?

I have almost 100TB on a Rockstor server. But your storage needs probably don't justify thousands of dollars in hardware.

I don't know what you mean by cloud. If by cloud you mean connected to the internet 24/7, then yes. I can access all my data everywhere and I have 1 Gbps internet to my house.
