Not to underestimate UC Mechanical Engineering, but their curriculum is based on Actual Board Exam, even 2nd year BSME students are focused on Past Board Exams, neglecting the true essence of Mechanical Engineering design.

I would bet that these UC topnotchers do not know how to operate a Universal Testing Machine, Orsat Gas Analyzer, Bomb Calorimeter... and even design a centrifugal pump out of nothing.

These weakness should be taken for consideration by the UC Administration.... Job interviews are not always answerable by letter A to E.

Every schools aiming for having a Topnotchers in every board examinations. That's why every schools have each own academic standards. UC curriculum is not only based on actual board examinations but UC is the only school who have On The Job Training Program on there 5th year 2nd semester before graduation based on actual job Training kung asa sila nga company mag OJT...Also mo matter gyud sa mga company mostly una jud e, hire kung topnotcher ka sa board exam or asa nga schools daghan mang top.

Perhaps... advantage jud sa topnotcher sa UC kay madawat jud. Pero sa mga normal board passer then kahibaw ang management sa kalaki sa teaching methods sa school... then it will matter.

I am not belittling UC... Even if dili ko taga UC pero akong review instructor si Alcorcon, he is an excellent instructor.

But, luoy jud ang students if ingon ani kay if strikto ang company, masangit jud sa examination ug interview. Kung UC graduate ka nga mechanical engineer, wa najud kay mabuhat ana kay niagi na ang 5 years.

Pamawi nalang kay dehado mo gamay sa 3 other cebu-based engineering universities.

The comment that UC engineering curriculum is the pioneer and only one in Cebu with an OJT is Incorrect, False and lacks updated information. Please be informed that the Engineering Academe- Linkage program has long been established in Cebu by three universities since 1990s namely USC, USJR and CIT-U as well Silliman University in Dumaguete City. This program was initiated jointly by Dept. of Science & Technology (DOST), Dept. of Trade & Industry (DTI), Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) and the Academe. Later CHED recognized the program and included the program as major criteria in awarding the Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development for Engineering.

Through the Engineering Academe-Linkage program these DOST, DTI ,CCCI and CHED accredited universities conducted joint and / or cooperative product & process research and development, quality, productivity improvement studies, industry sectors competitiveness studies and on-the-job-training of its senior undergraduate engineering students and thesis of graduate (masters) engineering students.

The USC School of Engineering, Talamban Campus is the only engineering school in the Visayas with 2 Centers of Excellence in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and 5 Centers of Development in Civil, Computer, Electronics & Communications, Electrical and Industrial Engineering programs. USC School of Engineering is also awarded Full Autonomous Status as with USJR in Cebu City. Subsequently, USC School of Engineering is the first and only Internationally Accredited engineering school in the Visayas and Mindanao by the Phil. Technological Council (PTC) in accordance with the Washington Accord standards and protocol.

The USC Talamban campus School of Engineering has established linkages with various companies since the USC Engineering Academe – Industry linkage program was conceptualized in 1990. To date the program has partnered and linked with more than 100 companies from the microelectronics, semiconductor, electronics, electrical, manufacturing, food processing, petroleum and chemical processing, construction, transportation and communication and information technology sectors in Metro Cebu, Metro Manila and Luzon areas. Research & Development, Quality & Productivity Studies, Industry Sector State-of-the-Art Studies and OJT of undergraduate and graduate students as well thesis and technical project studies were conducted.

USJR, USC, CTU Collaborates with Saitama-Cebu Monozukuri Engineering Training Program

Source : Official Website of USJR

USJR in cooperation with its Japanese partners has extended the Phase 2 of Saitama-Cebu Comprehensive Human Resources Monozukuri project to include the mechanical engineering students and professors of USC and CTU. “The program which immerses engineering students and professors to Japanese culture, manufacturing approach, technology, system and philosophy embodied in the Monozukuri.” The program is fully funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), it involves training of selected and top engineering students and faculty of USJR, USC and CTU with experts from partner universities in Japan such as Toyo University, Saitama University, Shibaura Institute of Technology and Nippon Institute of Technology. An on-the-job training and job shadowing with Japanese experts will be conducted in Japan based companies at the MEPZ and an opportunity to be hired in leading manufacturing corporations in Japan upon graduation and passing the board exam in the Phils.

Dr. Ancheta, President of CTU commended the program as it would “strengthen and develop engineering education of the 3 universities” while Rev. Fr. Miranda SVD, President of USC lauded USJR for initiating and spearheading the program “calling it, the type of interdisciplinary collaboration that really needs to happen.”

Note : USJR is awarded by CHED with Full Autnomous Status, Center of Excellence in Information
Technology Education and Center of Development in Industrial Engineering as well PAASCU accredited.

you forgot to mention Saybolt Viscometer, Pelton and Francis turbines combined with different types of weir, boiler, lathe machine, milling machine, or even a simple psychrometer.

Imagine... A BS Education curriculum where from 2ndyear - 4thyear ang topic pirme kay board exam questions, neglecting the principles and skills in teaching.

Or a BS Accountancy curriculum... nga puros pang board exam ang topic kada subject.

Wala na gebuhat sa 3 cebu based engineering schools kay kabalo man sila sa outcome... ma uwaw ang school sa ilang mga alumni.
