by default when turned on, its on photo mode, you can use the shutter on top to take photos.
if you want to go to video, just click the power button once and the led at the back will turn to red, and then press the shutter to take video.

i think the travel edition has a bt shutter incorporated, or i could be wrong.

its a great little cam, still testing the xyc configurator.
