    It's a matter of "Balance of Power" do...right now, on this world we are living. Power is brokered by big, highly influential and dominant nations/states whether they could be economic or military power.

    History would tell you if you allow one side to get so powerful and keep unchecked, the outcome would be catastrophic and on a worldwide scale.

    After WW2 and the demise of Hitler, there are still major and regional wars (Vietnam, Korea, Gulf War, etc) but those are arguably "Proxy Wars" conducted and fought by opposing sides i.e. Western and Eastern factions pulling the strings from behind.

    @Dorothea its about the Pipelineistan you can Google it.

    US objective is regime change in Syria (it already out the wikileaks document yesterday) and the goal is to contain Russia's dominance in Europe as a gas supplier.

    So United States with its vassal states Qatar/Saudi wants to connect pipelines via Syria to Turkey to sell gas to Europe, to undermine Russia (Gazprom) and Iran. But Syria says no and choose Iran instead (you can google Iran-Syria pipelines), the rest is history.

    Russia sent warplanes to Syria to pre-empt the No-Fly Zone that United States is planning with Turkey which they already started construction or expansion of the airbase near Syria.

    Assad, refusing the transit of Qatari gas and becoming a potential competitor in the European market, would have to be be eliminated. Physically, according to Fabius;

    so klarix kaayo nga gas market ang rason nganong dunay gubat sa syria. the mantra "Assad is a brutal dictator and he must go" doesn't even get closer to the brutality of the ISIS but this is what the americans is selling to the world public. it was just a smokescreen for the Qatari gas to pass Syria and therefore should be invaded and never mind about the wanton destruction of the country, the terrible loss of life and several millions of Syrian people dislocated.

    Yes, while the US is protecting the brutal house of Saud. It's all about gas since the beginning. Thats the only reason they can weakened Russia and Russia needs to protect its interests, its monopoly as the number one gas supplier.

    after five years of war in Syria, millions of people dislocated from their homes, hundreds of thousands dead and the country in shambles, finally peace will be on the horizon after Russia intervened. america's instigation of this horrible war backfired. the americans and the western countries were defeated in this proxy war. satanizing Assad by western mainstream media didn't work. syrians should know better.

    It's a 4-way war. Assad is fighting the rebels and ISIS. The rebels are fighting against Assad and ISIS. The Kurds are fighting ISIS, which in a much simplier perspective ISIS is fighting all three (Assad, Syrian Rebels and the Kurds).

    -Russia and Iran are supporting Assad
    -US, NATO, Arab League and Al Qaeda are supporting the Syrian Rebels
    ....US is also supporting ISIS!
