    FROM CIT here.

Normal ra man nang maghimo ug OS.. ang theory man focused ana. Ayaw tawn mo paghunahuna ug prehas windows ug iOs. Ipaexplore lang if unsa ang normal then unsa imong mabuhat para mas better. MAgsure ta anang maghimo kag full working OS nga ikaw ra isa. Pila ka senior engineers from different country gahimo sa Windows / iOS then eexpect nga mabuhat sa usa ka "Student" sa masters? Unsa ni matayog na pangarap! haha

Bitaw either CIT or UP. Pero mas nahan ko sa UP (pero bias ko since CIT man ko gikan (bachelor lang, pero teachers sa masters ug bachelor kay same raman gud))

it can be deduced that creating an OS by yourself does not equal or far exceeds the capabilities of those existing OS like windows, linux, mac etc.

when you are about to be instructed to create an OS, there should be a consideration/s. First, you should use open-source OS kernels(Kernel (operating system) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) in order to proceed in creating a user-interface(DOS or GUI) of your OS prototype. As you can realize, creating OS kernels require very talented programming skills. Some companies implemented it as closed-source for commercial gains like microsoft and apple. Linux kernel is an open-source OS kernel.
    Second, i really don't know.

kung pahimuon man jud mo'g OS, dili mana gipasabot na pahimuon mo og inyo jung kaugalingon'g OS literally. Kamo mo'y mohimo og OS na distribution based on that kernel. kung windows kernel ka nag baaaassseee, it'll be windows-based pero kung linux kernel ka, it'll be Linux distro(distribution). Some people are talented programmers but if they have no hints of creating an OS user-interface based on the kernel, then he can't create a distro in it.

in short, you aren't really creating an OS, you're creating a distribution on it.

if what my instructor was saying is true(nga tinoud man jud pirme iyang ipanabi), then you are about to face the difficult(not most) task on your masteral program.

dili ra man paghimo sa OS ang thesis siguro sa mga CS masters, basin naa pa diay laing field na pwede mahimong masteral thesis relative to computer science topics which likely to be more advanced and very scientific. so chill lang anang OS mga pre ayaw lang ka'y dibdiba haha :P

I would go for UP Cebu. I'm an CompEng grad from USC pud. Now pursuing my MS in Embedded Systems here in NTU (Singapore). Gamay nalang kulang para makgraduate, malooy lang Ginoo.

Writing an operating system is not difficult, I have developed one as part of my pet project for a synthesizable microcontroller core in VHDL. You can start by writing a simple task/scheduler and move on to other pieces of the OS later on. I can give you the source code of my small RTOS and corresponding device drivers if you want.

You need to take care of the bootloader first, then once mahuman lang nimo ang scheduler, you can then venture into implementing the device drivers. Try to look at ChibiOS/RT, Nuttx, and other small real-time operating systems for a start.
