    Default Delidding the i7 4790k

    Hi guys..

I've decided na i delid na lng jd nko akong 4790k.

Currently running 4.7ghz on all cores at 1.345v.

    Idle temps are at 40C-60C.
    Playing crysis 3 90C-100C.

Tried reseating my swiftech h240x 5 times already using noctua nt h1. Mao ra ghpn. Nka aircon pd ang room set to 24C

Im going for the vise method.
Still waiting for my Coollaboratories Liquid Ultra which will arrive next week.

Sa mga nka try na, any tips or warnings?

    Please share your experiences.

UPDATE! Here are the before and after results

    Before Delidding

    Constants:
    BCLK Frequency: 102.0 MHz
    CPU Ratio: 45 (4590 MHz)
    CPU Cache Ratio: 42x
CPU Cache Voltage: 1.321V (AI Suite 3)

    Time of Day: 8:30PM onwards
Temp: Approx. 20C (aircon set to 16C)

    Voltage IDLE:
    1.280V (AI Suite 3) 1.2740V (XTU)

    IDLE TEMPS:
    Core 0 : 40 - 44C
    Core 1 : 44 - 47C
    Core 2 : 43 - 45C
    Core 3 : 43 - 44C

Voltage Under Load (AIDA 64 Stress CPU, Stress FPU, Stress Cache):
    1.280V (AI Suite 3) 1.2740V (XTU)

    TEMPS UNDER LOAD (MAX):
    Core 0 : 86C
    Core 1 : 91C
    Core 2 : 88C
    Core 3 : 87C

I've read that ang Prime95 dli maau gamiton pang test ug Haswell Chips...but for everyone's enlightenment here it is. I only ran the test for 5 seconds.

    After delidding

Constants (Still the same as before):
    BCLK Frequency: 102.0 MHz
    CPU Ratio: 45 (4590 MHz)
    CPU Cache Ratio: 42x
CPU Cache Voltage: 1.321V (AI Suite 3)

    Time of Day: 8:30PM onwards
Temp: Approx. 20C (aircon set to 16C)

    Voltage IDLE:
    1.280V (AI Suite 3) 1.2740V (XTU)

    IDLE TEMPS:
    Core 0 : 30 - 40C Previous: 40 - 44C
    Core 1 : 34 - 44C
    Previous: 44 - 47C
    Core 2 : 32 - 44C
    Previous: 43 - 45C
    Core 3 : 31 - 46C
    Previous: 43 - 44C

Voltage Under Load (AIDA 64 Stress CPU, Stress FPU, Stress Cache):
    1.312V (AI Suite 3) 1.296V (XTU)

    TEMPS UNDER LOAD (MAX):
    Core 0 : 67C Previous: 86C

    Core 2 : 71C
    Previous: 88C
    Core 3 : 68C
    Previous: 87C

And of course, Prime95 Small FFTs..ran it for about 40 SECONDS! And it didn't even hit 100C unlike before nga 1 second lang 100C daun.

Your core voltage is too high which is 1.345v that is why you're getting around 90c-100c temps, try to lower down your core voltage to 1.20V - 1.25V and frequency speed, if you're getting a low temps let's say 60c-70c on those target core voltage then that should be normal ...

When you are overclocking, before you attempt to raise your core voltage, you also need check your temps if it's normal or not, if it's way too high already, then you need to stop increasing the core voltage and just try increasing the frequency speed if you have a stable system at that specific core voltage, if not, then try to lower down your frequency speed.

You should be expecting a lower temps in Devil's canyon because they have a better TIM compared to Haswell.. My Haswell CPU i7-4770k 1.220V @ 4.2Ghz getting around 60c-65c on a custom loop setup using EK Supremacy EVO CPU block.. kung init kaayo ting-udto labi na summer kay mo reach around 70c kay wala koy aircon and i am just using an electric fan.. your CPU temps depends as well on the ambient temp as well as the air flow from your case..

Delidding your CPU will void your warranty and should be done at your own risk, you may use the Vice method or the Razer method. If ever mag delid man gani ka, i recommend using "Coollaboratory Liquid Pro".

I haven't heard anyone here from istorya or from other group who offers a CPU delidding service, if wala kay makit-an then you need to do it on your own..

Let's ask our expert modders, mo offer ba mo og CPU delidding service? @COMCAM @LordZhen @AcidSuicide

delidding is a risky action... null and void ang warratny maong wala'y modder na mo offer sa ani na service... maka bayad pa lang hinoon sila sa owner... hehehe... or, perma'g waiver ang ower na free of obligation ang modder kun ma sikwakoy ang CPU...

i'll be delidding my engineering sample 4670k very soon.. i'll post feedback on how it goes. but i dont think it's too hard to do. ang naka lisud lang is the thought nga if you screw up, you just threw away so much money.. but in this case, i got it from asus for free, months before they released DC.

but yes the waiver sounds good. hehe.

Mao gyud bro lloyd, dba you're using a Sandy Bridge CPU bro? Nindot gyud ning Sandy Bridge CPU's kay CPU Die is Soldered to the IHS, mao overclocking friendly kaayo hehe. . I don't have an on hand experience overclocking with Sandy Bridge CPU. Can you share your overclocking settings bro? core voltage, frequency speed and the temps you're getting and what cooler you're using?

with your temp results above, very expensive hardware, ang a lot of hassle... i personally think the effort (and cost) are not worth it...

all i could think of is out of pure "enthusiast" passion to undergo such thrill and excitement... but i think im getting old so mao naka sulti ko nga dili worth it... i mean, even a stock 4790K will just eat anything you feed into it...

delided two ivy bridge procs, but i wont assure the success rate due to the delicate procedure, guts and glory lang jud and void warranty, failed one attempt out of 2 attempts. Deliding is really not the bottom line solution, better cooler and better lower voltage and higher clock would be the key

@AcidSuicide post nya nya og pics and procedures boss jesse once you've delidded your 4670k already, the tools you are using, cautions, risks, etc... .this would really help us "enthusiasts" who wants to delid their CPU due to unsatisfied temps results, at least this would give us an idea how to do it but a claim that it's not guarantee hehehe. .

    blade/cutter rana
    this would be a start

    and more on youtube hehe

    Thanks sa inputs nmo bro..

Actually, i started at 4.5ghz oc at 1.12v+ temps still reached 80c - 95c and sometimes 100c in about 10 mins.

Based on that I tried 4.7ghz and temps only increased very little so I went with it.

And btw bro.. Even at 4.4ghz 1.0v+ la jud ni ubos ug 80c ako temps.

I've thoroughly read a 600+ posts thread at an intel forum and have followed their guidelines on how to properly overclock Devil's canyon. So far I have similar core clock and core voltages with most people in the forum. As for the temps, almost pareha ra sad.

Ang suggestion nla is to Delid.

I just bought this proc last feb2015 and have thought about RMA but never pko nka try ana and based on what I've read it would take at least 1 month.

Kita npd ko sa mga vid and di man au lisod i follow. Also i am a DIY guy and would prefer to do things myself if kaya ra.

Ready na akong vise. Wait nlng ko sa Coollaboratory liquid ultra.
