    religion is definitely one of the reasons why we are so divided. imagine if the world would be without any religion?

    well then as voltaire may have put it " If God does not exist, it is necessary for Man to create HIM"
    One grisly practice that is common in most Moslem countries is female circumcision, or, as the Western medical authorities have more aptly named the practice, female genital mutilation (FGM). Without going into graphic detail, this process involves the removal of female genitalia.

    According to the World Health Organization, "female genital mutilation is normally performed by traditional practitioners with crude instruments, such as knives, razors, blades and broken glass, usually without anaesthetics." 1 This report finds that, though some girls are mutilated at birth, "most girls are mutilated between the ages of 4 and 12." 2

    Not only is this practice completely medically unnecessary, barbaric, and unethical, it carries significant health risks. The WHO report continues:

    The practice of FGM often leads to complications. Short term complications include severe pain, shock, hemorrhage, urine retention, ulceration of the genital region and injury to adjacent tissue. Hemorrhage and infection can cause death. Long-term complications include cysts and abscesses, keloid scar formation, damage to the urethra resulting in urinary incontinence, dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse), sexual dysfunction, urinary tract infection, infertility and childbirth complications. 3
    Why do Moslems promote a practice which is clearly so damaging? It is seen as a way of controlling sexual appetites. Since a girl who has undergone mutilation experiences no pleasure in the marital act, she has no reason to seek it; therefore, her virginity is preserved until her wedding night. In other words, Moslem men are willing to risk the lives of young girls for no other reason than to ensure the status of their young brides.

    Islam made me question about whether the message in the Quran is really that of God. This I really cannot understand - Muhammad, married Aisha when she was 6 years old and consumated the marriage when she was 9 YEARS OLD. I tried to search for whether this is true or not, and indeed it was - its in Bukhari Hadith.

    Btw, 'consumated' means that he had *** with her. What would you call a 50-something year old man who has intercourse with a 9 year old girl?

    He (Mohammed) seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh urges us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected; he was obeyed by carnal men. As for proofs of the truth of his doctrine, he brought forward only such as could be grasped by the natural ability of anyone with a very modest wisdom. Indeed, the truths that he taught he mingled with many fables and with doctrines of the greatest falsity.

    He did not bring forth any signs produced in a supernatural way, which alone fittingly gives witness to divine inspiration; for a visible action that can be only divine reveals an invisibly inspired teacher of truth. On the Contrary, Mohammed said that he was sent in the power of his arms - which are signs not lacking even to robbers and tyrants. What is more, no wise men, men trained in things divine and human, believed in him from the beginning. Those who believed in him were brutal men and desert wanderers, utterly ignorant of all divine teaching, through whose numbers Mohammed forced others to become his follower's by the violence of his arms. Nor do divine pronouncements on part of preceding prophets offer him any witness. On the contrary, he perverts almost all the testimony of the Old and the New Testaments by making them into a fabrication of his own, as can be seen by anyone who examines his law. It was, therefore, a shrewd decision on his part to forbid his followers to read the Old and New Testaments, lest these books convict him of falsity. It is thus clear that those who place faith in his words believe foolishly.

    ^^ yeah i have noticed that mo vary sad ang practices of Muslims in a given country. Like here sa ato country, they are not that harsh on women. But say Afghanistan... their women are really shot in public if they are even suspected pa lang of adultery.

    of course, they do have their purpose of having to let their women dress like that.But undoubtedly, cruelty with Muslim women is being practiced with other Muslim extremist countries, which i believe is beyond their faith na.

    @necrotic freak

    yeah i have heard of female circumssision too... i think it is still being practiced in egypt. this has been confirmed by WHO.

    [color=navy]^^Hadiths are based on accounts of what Muhammed said, did and matters he approved of. It could be argued that hadiths are second-hand accounts of the life of the Prophet. Still, hadiths are not directly written by the hand and mind of Muhammed.

    So are these reliable and factual?

    Muslims popularly believe that the Sahih al-Bukhari to be "The most authentic book after the Holy Qur'an"

    Online Source:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahih_Bukhari
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith#...us_Terminology

    Besides, the times then were different. The laws and norms are different then from now. Let us not be quick to judge or condemn others because of such differences.

    [b]@necrotic freak, I suggest that you should be careful with your statements. Unless you have reliable references you could share as your resources, these could be defined as yours.

    It is noted and seen that Muslims can be violent because of their zeal for their religion and their religious leaders, so just beware.

    here's just some example of the Taliban restrictions on women. the list is long, so i have just copied some:

    Taliban restrictions and mistreatment of women include the:

    1- Complete ban on women's work outside the home, which also applies to female teachers, engineers and most professionals. Only a few female doctors and nurses are allowed to work in some hospitals in Kabul.

    2- Complete ban on women's activity outside the home unless accompanied by a mahram (close male relative such as a father, brother or husband).

    3- Ban on women dealing with male shopkeepers.

    4- Ban on women being treated by male doctors.

    5- Ban on women studying at schools, universities or any other educational institution. (Taliban have converted girls' schools into religious seminaries.)

    6- Requirement that women wear a long veil (Burqa), which covers them from head to toe.

    7- Whipping, beating and verbal abuse of women not clothed in accordance with Taliban rules, or of women unaccompanied by a mahram.

    8- Whipping of women in public for having non-covered ankles.

    9- Public stoning of women accused of having *** outside marriage. (A number of lovers are stoned to death under this rule).

    Female genital mutilation

    Female genital cutting (FGC), female genital mutilation (FGM), or female circumcision (FC), is the excision or tissue removal of any part of the female genitalia for cultural, religious or other non-medical reasons. It is not the same as the procedures used in gender reassignment surgery or the genital modification of intersexuals.

    the practice is fairly common among the country's Muslim women

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_circumcision

    What is female genital mutilation?

    Female genital mutilation (FGM), often referred to as 'female circumcision', comprises all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural, religious or other non-therapeutic reasons. There are different types of female genital mutilation known to be practised today. They include:

    * Type I - excision of the prepuce, with or without excision of part or all of the clitoris;
    * Type II - excision of the clitoris with partial or total excision of the labia minora;
    * Type III - excision of part or all of the external genitalia and stitching/narrowing of the vaginal opening (infibulation);
    * Type IV - pricking, piercing or incising of the clitoris and/or labia; stretching of the clitoris and/or labia; cauterization by burning of the clitoris and surrounding tissue;
    * scraping of tissue surrounding the vaginal orifice (angurya cuts) or cutting of the vagina (gishiri cuts);
    * introduction of corrosive substances or herbs into the vagina to cause bleeding or for the purpose of tightening or narrowing it; and any other procedure that falls under the definition given above.

    The most common type of female genital mutilation is excision of the clitoris and the labia minora, accounting for up to 80% of all cases; the most extreme form is infibulation, which constitutes about 15% of all procedures.

    The reason why it is conducted: religious reasons: Some Muslim communities, however, practise FGM in the belief that it is demanded by the Islamic faith. The practice, however, predates Islam.

    [color=navy]^^The Taliban are an extremist, terrorist, and ethnic fundamentalist Sunni Muslim Pashtun movement. Meaning they are at best a sect that profess allegiance and affiliation to Islam.

    But they do not represent Islam. Using them as an prime example of Islam culture is irresponsible as using the Alex Brongcayo Brigade or the NPA to represent all Filipinos.
