i dont want to have a general assumption about our muslim brothers..
christians and muslims may be alike in some aspects.. talking about each religion's bloody history..
but lately, it seems like events of terror are almost always associated in the name of islam..
i WANT to think that those who live a life of violence are only those Muslims who lack the right knowledge and wrongly interpret the teachings of the Quran.
BUT, when I look into the details of each unfortunate event I am forced to think otherwise.
Their leaders, who influence their follower's minds to do such horrific acts, are learned individuals of their society..
In fact, most of them are scholars of islam and/or sometimes educated in universities from the western nations whom they consider their enemies..

I have nothing against islam.. I understand that there are a lot of our muslim brothers who shun away from a life of violence..
But isn’t it time for these individuals to also act and set straight the wrong path that some of their own brothers are taking? Don’t they see the need to protect Islam even from within?
We all need each other’s help. We also direly need our muslim brothers’ help to make this world become a much better place for humanity

i have nothing against muslims... but they do have this very odd way of treating their women like animals. the thought just sickens me. i see not purpose of having them so wrapped up. and some even prohibit their women in wearing make up... hahay

religion is definitely one of the reasons why we are so divided. imagine if the world would be without any religion?

well then as voltaire may have put it " If God does not exist, it is necessary for Man to create HIM"

[color=navy]@mata_hari, you are generalizing matters too easily. Everything is really a matter of interpretation.

This aspect of Muslim treatment of women comes from their customs and culture stemming from their religion, Islam and not to forget their place of origin~ Please consider that dressing their women in burqas protects their delicate bodies from the desert sun and sand. And modesty is an attractive virtue in women isn't it not?

But I would not argue with you that there are Muslim men who negatively intepreted their holy books and have abused their faith by making their women as second class citizens, treat them as animals as you say. It is not a fault of their religion but of their education.

Besides, there are modern-day Muslim men and women who believe that keeping the spiritual faith is more important than keeping the religious customs and yet there are modern-day, highly educated Muslim women who choose to wear the burkha and submit to their norms of their culture as an expression of their faith.

Did you know that Prophet Muhammed beloved first wife Khadijah was a widow, a mother and a successful businesswoman when she first met the man who would become the Prophet? In fact it was she who hired him to serve her as an trade agent.

Seeing that her business became more successful in Muhammed's hands, she greatly admired the timid man which soon became a deep affection. She even initiated the marriage proposal to him!

And when Muhammed received his divine revealation from the angel Gabriel to become God's Prophet, it was she who became the first convert to and thus the FIRST MUSLIM!

[b]The religion Islam, like any good religion, respects and values the rights and lives of any person regardless of gender.

It is just that the people, particularly later leaders of the religion, misused the teachings of Islam to further their own selfish goals and ends.

Again, it is all a matter of interpretation.
