Bring the original box and recepit to the nearest NTC office from your location and have them block the IMEI permanently,

For Android:

Open Google Settings app
- go to Security
- check "Allow Remote Lock and Erase"
- ensure that location settings is always on

To find your phone go to https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager and login using your Google account. From there you have the option to lock, ring, erase your phone.

Open Settings app
- go to iCloud
- scroll down and make sure Find My iPhone/iPad/Mac is On

General security practices:

- on your Android phone, make sure to enable encryption.
- if you are using a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM a thief can easily flash another rom to bypass your security but at least your files are safe.

- on iOS 8, encryption is on by default.
- go to NTC and have your IMEI blocked
