Naa diay mga survivalist diri ....
Just a reminder, some of the gears you guys are accumulating and acquiring will be :
- Inutile because of the lack of resources for it to work for you.
- Ineffective because you have it but you have no clue at all how it works when shit hits the fan.
- Useless because it relies a platform of energy derive from power , water , fire etc. and its total absence will just frustrate you.
My suggestion ? Practice primitive skills. Learn how to start fire , make improvised shelter , secure potable water , learn how to hunt , be efficient in weapons may it be modern firearms or primitive , know basic first aid , etc. All the gadgets and technologies in the world are only good when it serves its purpose in its designed advantage which is most of the time , in a controlled environment. Take a look at Tacloban during Typhoon Yolanda and learn from it.
Skills ? Learn it while you guys still can . While there is still internet and you can browse Youtube lols.
Unless you guys hoard which will cost you an arm and a leg , that would be the answer to the question of " Should I learn how to be self reliant ? " .
- No matter how good your flashlights are , batteries will still run out.
- No matter how much freeze dried food and other dehydrated meals you will still need water to bring it back to life.
- No matter how much crank you make in a day just to provide power, it will not be sufficient and that wasted energy should be spent somewhere else important.
- No matter how nice the solar power panels you own , typhoons will eat it like a champ.
The gears will definitely provide luxury , morale and welfare to the individual but remember, a typical family in Cebu is composed of 5 members. That means a stored food should be enough for at least a minimum of 72 hours or max at 6 months X 5 . Just go figure how really ... anything for the sake of survival is rendered as something for the community which basicaly to start the immediate family.
Sounds PARANOID na ? We are not even halfway lols. You guys cna learn a lot from the mountain folks , that is because a lot of them live semi off the grid for a long time.

i have a radio, baofeng uv5r and i use it during our motorcycle road trips...i sure know how to use it with the other radios in our group within a certain distance using a certain frequency during the ride but still i lack so much know-how to operate it and to set it up to communicate with others long range...i know that the radio i own is not ntc approved but im planning to purchase one the soonest i will have a better understanding on how to operate radios/Ham...
that is good boss john, it is the desire to learn more that is the first step. IT is best if you have a license so you will be able to communicate legally with people on your radio, but even if you don't, you can still listen in on info that might be useful or crucial to survival. Take note though, don't take everything on the radio as truth or fact immediately because even in times of calamities, there are just people who take pleasure in spreading fear and chaos around. Baofengs are good radio for me as long as you take care of it. Get a headset with remote PTTs too if you can, they are so useful and really convenient especially for "listening in" or just monitoring.
Pfffft. Why rely on radios when you can get udpates from FB or Twitter? Bisan wala nay internet, those sites won't shut down. LOL. Na buhi nasad ning pag ka semi-prepper nako da. Talk unya ta anang radio nimo inig walk nato karon Friday bai D ha.
Kalagot kaayo kay dili na maka palit ug lithium ion from HK.. Maayo unta to kay barato ra paliton didto, maka hoard ko ug maayo haha. Stick to local stores nalang ko ani. Palit unya diay ko ug MT1A oi, wala naman diay koy AA light kay na apil sa sunog akong P5.
