Default lipstick has lead (lead causes cancer)

I received a mail today from a friend telling me that some lipsticks contain lead. Is this true? here's what the email said:

Recently a lipstick brand called "Red Earth" decreased their prices from $67 to $9.90. It contained lead.
Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.

The lipstick brands that contain lead are:

    CHRISTIAN DIOR
    LANCOME
    CLINIQUE
    Y.S.L ESTEE LAUDER
    SHISEIDO
    RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
    CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
    MARKET AMERICA - MOTNES LIPSTICK.

The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer.

After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick contained the most amount of lead.

Watch out for those lipstickswhich are supposed to stay longer. If your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of
    lead.

Here is the test you can do yourself:

    1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
    2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
    3. If the lipstick colour changes to black, then you know the lipstick
    contains lead.

My friend said that the letter originally came from someone who works in the breast cancer unit at Mt. Sinai Hospital, in Toronto. Is this for real? And I thought lipsticks are made of fish scales....

I agree with the email sent to you. You see too much of everything is always bad. A study has shown that a chemical found in lipstick and nail varnish could trigger breast cancer. Butyl benzyl phthalate which is also known as BBP is most likely to be used in the cosmetics industry to make products glossy. According to the Long Island Oncologist in 2007, an environmentalist group, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics did a survey on lipsticks. They tested 33 different types of lipsticks for lead and found out they indeed contain lead. Lead is a chemical which causes cancer. There are many lipstick manufacturers who don't provide you with the list of ingredients that they use. But many renowned brands, including Vaseline, use toxic, drying ingredients in their lipsticks. For the record, in a lifetime, the average woman absorbs 2lb of lipstick! However, there are many safe lipsticks out there, so I suggest that find out what you're applying.

I’m one of those women who apply a lip stick almost daily when going to work or attending a gathering or an event that requires putting lipstick and obviously I'm not alone. Remember that we should always be aware of what ingredients does our cosmetics has and be aware of what will it cause our health.
