i'm a mutual fund investor myself. its pretty simple. u contact a mutual fund agent. do u know one? i can recommend to u somebody.

rmora is right, you contact a mutual fund agent. minimum investement is 5-10k. invest in big and stable companies like philam and sunlife. i invested in both. in mutual funds, they offer you choices, like purely bonds, equity, or a mix of both. in bonds, your money goes mainly to governement securities investment. this is more stable, and it will earn you about 7-14% annually. in equity, your money will be invested in publicly traded stocks in the philippines (jollibee, san miguel, etc..). this is the riskiest kind of investment because there are high fluctuations in the interest rate depending on market performance. in the mix (often termed as balanced fund), its in the middle, this is good for moderate risk takers. my investment last year in equity and balanced fund earned me almost 50% interest in just one year.

to compare the three kinds of investments in mutual funds, the equity and balanced funds offer higher rates in the long run. bonds, are stable but the interests are not that high, but still far better than the banks.

as financial advisers would say, the higher the risk, the higher the return. low risk, low return.

also, when equity investments are not performing well, bonds are. and when bonds are not, equity is performing well. mura man na sila ug see-saw.
