SOME 21 most wanted persons were arrested by the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in its campaign against hardened criminals during the first half this year.
Rape was the most common crime committed by the suspects followed by murder and selling of illegal drugs.
The CPPO, under the helm of Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, achieved a 100-percent compliance based on the number of most wanted persons it has submitted.

A report from Police Regional Office 7 showed CPPO has achieved the required six percent compliance every year, which is 21 of the 349 most wanted persons under its watch.
Behind bars
One of CPPO’s high-profile targets is Jonathan “Atan” Rubi, who was arrested last January after a foiled assassination plot against Asturias Vice Mayor Joel Dumdum. He also had an arrest warrant for murder.
In January, police also arrested Leonides Baritua in Carcar City for selling illegal drugs; Elijo Gequillo in San Fernando for rape; Juan Garci in Bantayan for rape; and Jeremy Bautista Villacrusis in Madridejos for robbery and theft.
In February, police arrested Marcelo Cohitmingao in Compostela for murder; Deo Arellano in Tabuelan for rape; Khudairi Aiyob in Tabuelan for rape; Romel Escala in Bantayan for rape; Ferdinand Baruc in Tabuelan for rape; and Danilo Paran in City of Naga for rape.
From March, April and May, police rounded up Teresito Tejares in Borbon for rape; Orwen Ilustrisimo in Bantayan for rape; Juanito Flores in Badian for murder and frustrated murder; Alan Lapinid in Carcar for possession of illegal drugs; Francisco Medalla in Balamban for rape; Felix Nicor in Bantayan for rape; and Alizer Polyante in Pinamungajan for selling illegal drugs.
During this time, Ranie Fundador, one of the most wanted persons in Carmen for allegedly raping his stepdaughter, was shot and killed in Barangay Liburon, Carmen.
In June, police arrested Cecilio Baranggan in Dalaguete for rape and Morito Martinez in Tudela for murder.
Sorcery as a motive
Last Wednesday night, Juanito Dagohoy, the most wanted person in Aloguinsan, was arrested after four years in hiding.
Police found the 66-year-old vendor in Sitio Sam-Ang, Barangay Cambuhawi, Balamban.
Dagohoy was accused of hiring a hitman to kill two relatives.
The alias warrant of arrest for murder was issued against him on Jan. 7, 2010 yet.
PO2 Leonides Leduna of the Aloguinsan Police Station said Dagohoy had a daughter who fell ill four years ago.
He brought her to the neighborhood quack doctor, who told him his two relatives caused her illness through sorcery.
That reportedly promp-ted Dagohoy to hire a hitman to kill them.
Leduna said an informant led them to Dagohoy, but the hitman continues to elude arrest.
Dagohoy is detained at the Aloguinsan Police Station, while his case is being investigated. (DSM/Franz Correa, USJ-R Mass Com intern)
