If it's true that it was shot down using a BUK SAM by rebels (speculation pa this time) then how the hell do they get a hold of such equipment? These are strategic level weapons.

probably from the Russians, because Buks are Soviet/Russian-made and this particular group is pro-Russian.

Ukraine has a Buk system inherited from USSR. There are reports that the pro-russian separatist was able to capture this.

It seems that they thought as a military cargo plane the Antonov (looks a passenger plane)that was shot down recently.
