need help with android phone

Good day. I recently bought a starmobile diamond s3 for my 50+ yr old mom. Also bought a 16gb sd card. Thing is, i don't know a thing about android phones bec i'm using ios.
Please help me with these:
1) how can i make the sd card as the primary storage?
2) rooting. What's it about and should i do it? By the way, the phone will be used for text, call, fb and games only.
3) if i should root the phone, how?
Please enlighten me guys.

1/ SETTING / STORAGE / scroll down to Miscellaneous / Transfer data to SD Card. It will transfer photos, videos, music only. Kitkat 4.x.x does not allow transfer of Apps to SD directly unless your phone is rooted.
2/ just google "rooting". Not necessary to 'root' your mom's phone if only used for text, call, fb and games. But if you want you can "root", unlock the Bootloader, install custom ROM.
3/ There are lots of ways to root your phone. Just don't forget to back-up your DRM files (TA Back-up) before yo unlock the bootloader. Best to google nalang but don't be in a hurry. Go slow and understand the procedures well. Least your mom will have a 'bricked' phone.

btw my phone (Xperia ZU C6833) is rooted but not BL-locked. 64 GB SDXC into two partitions and my apps resides on the 2nd partition of the SD . The internal storage is mostly free with few sys files only.

No need to root that phone. I think the functions it has without rooting it is more than enough for your mom.

thanks for the replies.. another question though, can i partition the sd card without rooting? or any other way to save apps on the sd card?
