well Laure is relegated to play a reliever role for Alaska in the PBA, and the way he is delivering is actually fine, occasionally hitting big shots and chipping in bonus points, and he has fit in his role in Alaska so well, reminds me of Scott Burell sa Chicago Bulls before who actually was once a Red Bull import

That's the good thing now, talents from the south are already getting recognized. Unlike before that the PBA are made up of almost 85%-90% Tagalogs. That's one of the achievements or probably contributions of the now defunct MBA, they were able to successfully scout, developed and presented southern Philippines basketball. Now scouts are going as far as Mindanao to recruit players, even the PBL and collegiate basketball.

Ken Bono has been one of the hottest commodities in the PBA right now. Alaska management has received a lot of phone calls inquiring about the former Adamson stalwart. Yet unknowingly to other teams, Bono has already signed with Alaska before the team went to USA as an incentive after winning the recent Fiesta Conference. Aside from Bono, JR QuiƱahan and third draftee Ardy Larong also signed deals with Alaska.

Another recent deal was No. 1 pick Joe DeVance finally signing with Welcoat. DeVance signed an P8.7M deal good for three years with the WelBest company. Aside from the agreed amount, DeVance was assured by the management for a good incentive package and a help by the franchise for DeVance to acquire a condominium unit somewhere in Ortigas Center or Eastwood City. Other than DeVance, Welcoat also finalized deals with veteran forward Rob Wainwright and second round pick Ryan Arana.

    Latest PBA news

    Ginebra

Ginebra's title bid is in jeopardy as they're on the brink of losing two of their priced big men. Almost already giving up on workhorse Rudy Hatfield, Ginebra doesn't know anything about Rafi Reavis' whereabouts. The Gin Kings are taking into consideration that Rudy Hatfield might no longer return after getting married. As for Reavis, Ginebra management doesn't know any of his whereabouts. Prior to the Philippine team leaving for Tokushima, Ginebra coach Jong Uichico spoke with Reavis. According to Uichico, Reavis is leaving for USA to undergo a surgery operation. And other than that, Uichico said that Reavis might be doing something for his mom.

For now, Ginebra is looking for big men to at least fill in the void left by both Hatfield and Reavis.

    Red Bull

Atenistas Richard Alvarez and Paolo Bugia is staying with the Barakos. After the unhappy Larry Fonacier was sent to San Miguel Beer for Brandon Cablay, Kiko Adriano and Omanzie Rodriguez, rumors circulated that either or both Alvarez and Bugia will be following Fonacier's footsteps to reunite with other fellow Atenistas. Both players has confirmed that they're both "happy" with Red Bull and has no plans of leaving the team.

    San Miguel Beermen

Though unconfirmed, rumors say that the San Miguel Beermen has signed no. 2 overall draft pick Samigue Eman to only a 2-year contracct worth P150,000 a month on his rookie year and P200,000 a month on his next year. Such a move started thoughts that the 6'9 giant is not really a part of SMB's long-term plan and they're setting their eyes on former Ateneo star JC Intal. Eman is probably envious about other draft picks. Top pick Joe DeVance and third pick overall Ryan Reyes has already signed maximum contracts with Welcoat and Sta. Lucia as well as Alaska big men Ken Bono and JR QuiƱahan and even second rounder Ryan Arana with Welcoat. Nevertheless, Eman could still change SMB management's minds. He can show his real worth now that Dorian PeƱa is out for the season.

    Welcoat Dragons

The term rebuilding might not be too appropriate for Welcoat since they've been in the league for just a season, yet such deals might turn the Dragons second season around. Welcoat is a lot stronger now than last season after bagging No. 1 pick Joe DeVance and second rounder 6'1 Ryan Arana, re-signed Rob Wainwright and added experience and maturity in Nic Belasco sending 2nd year pro Junjun Cabatu away. For sure Welcoat's dismal 7-29 record won't repeat again.

    More PBA news

    Purefoods

With it's bid to strengthen it's line-up for a serious title run, Purefoods eyes Red Bull's Brandon Cablay and controversial Fil-Am Alex Crisano. Reports say that Purefoods is trying to make a deal with the Barakos to send Cablay, yet nothing significant has been accomplished yet. "If the offer is good, why not?" said Red Bull top official Tony Chua. If such a deal would push through, Cablay would take the same route Rommel Adducul did -- from San Miguel to Red Bull to Purefoods without playing a single game with Red Bull. On the other hand, the 6'6 Crisano is currently working out his documents to affirm his citizenship and return to the PBA for the 2007-08 season. Crisano was among the players who were declared "Fil-Shams" during the 2004 season along with Asi Taulava, Eric Menk and Mick Pennisi, who fortunately were able to work it out immediately.

Roger Yap, James Yap and Brandon Cablay on the court together? A scoring spree with Air21 is very likely.

    Red Bull

Air21 has been looking on vastly improved Barako Carlo Sharma lately. Red Bull however are bent to keep Sharma as they're left with no other quality big man after both Enrico Villanueva and Omanzie Rodriguez left and recently, Rich Alvarez out with an injury. Left to man the middle for Red Bull are Sharma, Mick Pennisi, Paolo Bugia, Leo Najorda, Mike Hrabak and new recruit Mark Andaya. Red Bull might be more willing to give away some of it's surplus backcourts. Both Brandon Cablay and Kiko Adriano can be expendable because of Red Bull's crowd of reliable backcourt of Topex Robinson, Celino Cruz, Junthy Valenzuela and Cyrus Bagiuo. Even draft pick Jojo Duncil can be sent by Red Bull away.

I wonder what's going on to Yeng Guiao's mind right now.

Both Ken Bono and Alaska are probably just too excited. . Bono, QuiƱahan and Larong immediately got signed right after the draft? Alaska is making sure they've got them in bag before they leave for USA, Sigurista man pud diay ni si Joaqui Trillo.
