KPOP always produce original materials while OPM relies on revivals and ballads. My hairstylist is Korean and she always put on Kpop music videos that I have to endure listening to it whenever I visit. In fairness, they have some catchy upbeat songs and really fancy choreography. Filipinos tend to listen these high notes belting songs. Aside from that we have an OPM rock which is not as popular as those solo artists. There was a little stint on Ska and reggae music but didn't went mainstream. There was a stint in acoustic music mainly from Paulo Santos, MYMP and etc but it was no different from ballads.
IMO, KPOP just has a lot of genres that can offer while OPMs only has ballads and rock that are well-received in the Philippine airwaves. Also given the piracy issue, recording companies in the Philippines aren't making enough money to venture on signing artists from different genres. I think OPMs would be able to compete with KPops when Filipinos starts paying for music, I mean buying them legally not through piracy.
