    ASEAN Film Award, Scriptwriting and Essay Writing Contests to Be Launched in the 9th Cinemanila International Film Festival

    In its ninth year, the Cinemanila International Film Festival (CIFF) will give recognition to the Best ASEAN Film. This coincides with CIFF’s ASEAN Film Focus, the Festival’s celebration of the ASEAN’s 40th anniversary. A cash prize of PhP250,000.00 will be presented to the winner of this award. The Best ASEAN Short Film will be similarly honored; the winner will receive a prize of PhP50,000.00.

    The 9th CIFF will also launch contests in Scriptwriting and Essay Writing. The prizes for the Scriptwriting Contest are: 1st – PhP200,000.00; 2nd – PhP150,000.00; and 3rd – PhP100,000.00. For the Essay Writing Contest, the prizes are: 1st – PhP30,000.00; 2nd – PhP20,000.00; and 3rd – PhP10,000.00. The deadline for entries for both contests is 15 July 2007. Rules and regulations will be announced shortly.     The CIFF will continue to give awards for the Digital Lokal, International Cinema, and Young Cinema competitions. The prizes are: Digital Lokal (Grand Prize) – PhP250,000.00; Digital Lokal (Jury Prize) – PhP150,000; Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema – PhP70,000.00; Best Short Film – PhP30,000.00; Lino Brocka Award (Grand Prize, International Cinema) – PhP150,000.00; and Best International Short Film – PhP50,000.00.

    These competitions and awards are made possible by the joint efforts of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and Cinemanila.
    The 9th Cinemanila International Film Festival will have its run from 8 to 19 August 2007 in SM Mall of Asia and other selected SM theatres.

    The Urban Mediamakers have extended their call for entries for the 6th Urban Mediamakers Film Festival (UMFF) to September 15, 2007. With the theme "The Movement in Progress through Independent Filmmaking," UMFF 2007 is seeking conscious films that entertain and invoke social change. All genres accepted for competition (features, shorts, animation,
    music/poetry videos, documentaries, TV shows, and short-film scripts).

    Submission fee $40 for projects 30 minutes or less; $50 for projects 31 minutes or more.

    Up to three short-films will be selected for airing on the BETJ Best Shorts program. Best feature film will receive the services of a producer rep for distribution deal. In-kind prizes and
    awards in all categories.

    The Chicago Filipino American Film Festival is currently seeking entries for its 2007 festival program.

    The Chicago Filipino American Film Festival, now in its fourth year, will be held at 7&#189; Cinema at the Chopin Theatre in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.

    The Chicago Filipino American Film Festival supports works featuring the talent and dedication of Filipino and Filipino American filmmakers, writers, and performers. We are seeking short films, music videos, documentaries and feature-length narratives.

    indie, as in independent, in a nutshell, you are free from the clutches of the EVIL PRODUCERS that goes down and try to ruin your content, and you are free to tell your story in whatever way you like.
