Default Hong Kong Textbook Discriminates Filipinas

A textbook in Hong Kong purportedly depicted Filipinos as domestic helpers, an activist blogger said, possibly changing the educational landscape of the city-state which does not stereotype ethnicity more than a decade ago.

Tom Grundy, who calls himself a British activist based in Hong Kong, posted the photo on his website Hongwrong.com in an entry entitled “Hong Kong Textbook Tells You to ‘Know Your Place!’”

The picture showed an illustrated textbook page containing a sketch of a dark-skinned Filipina saying: “I am a Filipino. I am a domestic helper in Hong Kong.”

I think this is not stereotyping since the word "Filipino" was already printed in it.
It could have been another story if it is being presented as "fill-in the blanks".

Noble man ang "domestic helper" as profession. I don't see anything wrong ani.

Seems a discrimination to me but i cant blame them because most of the Filipinos are working as Domestic Helpers in their country

nothing wrong with it. those DH are the ones who also teaches those kids to read and write...kung baga murag 2nd parent sa ilang mga alaga nga bata...in other way, those DH are also shaping the future of their "alaga".

just telling it like it is. Besides, sakto si @sizzlingROBOT, what is wrong with being a domestic helper? It's a way to make a living, and it's more respectable than money from illicit activities. I can think of a million other stereotypes that are far worse than this. gi pun-an2x raman na sa author ug "Know Your place", but it doesn't necessarily depict that all Filipinos are domestic helpers. It just depicts that illustration of a Filipina to be one.

Na.inculcate man gud nato to our generation that a noble profession is having an 8-5 desk job and wearing a suit and tie. Outside that sphere is not a noble job except sguro katong nag business on their own and nilambo.

The simple words like "RA MAN" i.e. Security guard RA MAN ako trabaho. There is something that needs to be change in the way we think of ourselves.
