MANILA, Philippines—Police have arrested a man who stabbed dead his seven-year-old daughter and then posted the pictures of the dead child on Facebook at dawn on Tuesday in Quezon City. Mark Alvin Manliclic, 31, admitted to murdering his seven-year-old child Angel Mark Cathlene although he could not explain why.
What was clear, according to police investigators, was that hours before, he had threatened to kill the girl at the height of a fight with his wife.
Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said Manliclic and his wife based in Canada exchanged heated messages over Facebook the night before.
“The wife was apparently unable to answer some of his messages, so the suspect eventually got mad and said he would kill his daughter should the wife refuse to come home,” the official said.
The suspect even made the photo of his bloodied daughter as his profile picture on Facebook, but it was eventually deleted later in the day, Marcelo said.
The murder happened inside the family home on M. Aquino Street, Barangay (village) Sta Lucia at around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Police learned that the girl’s mother, Cathy, has been working in Canada for the past three months and that the suspect had been demanding for her to come home.
A restless Manliclic, speaking behind bars, recalled consuming a bottle of Red Horse beer hours before.
A few days ago, he allegedly tried to take his own life but was stopped by his young daughter.
Asked why he killed his daughter, Manliclic said he could not recall what happened, save for the sight of blood oozing from the girl’s neck.
“I only saw blood all over her neck, I could not remember what I did. I then ran outside to tell my relatives what happened,” he said absentmindedly.
His relatives rushed over to their house to see the lifeless girl lying on her back, after which they reported it to barangay authorities.
Insp. Elmer Monsalve, homicide section chief, said the girl had stab wounds all over her neck, back and stomach.
Monsalve said they arrived on the scene to find the grisly photo uploaded on Facebook, and with an open chat window in which the suspect confessed his crime to his mother in the United States.
