How do you imagine mactan island?
[color=navy] I don't see culture as the issue here. The culture in Mactan is the same as the culture in Cebu or any island in the region: Visayan culture.
What seems to be the concern of this thread is the possible presence of a *** trade in Mactan that's well known among foreigners~ well I mean that's no surprise, there's also a *** trade in Cebu island too. And everywhere~

that`s no surprise because foreigners are abundant in that island. same as what happen in Olongapo when the US base was still present. The same way I guess in Boracay since I have never been there.
Right, but we dont blame the foreigners for their continuing support for thesex tours. Its the same thing as we dont blame drug addicts because there are drug dealers.....
But what we failed to see is the value of culture awareness and strenght againts this *** tours. I am just making an example how and where our tourism industry is going and how it will affect our sorroundings.
My point is simple...foreigners should go to Cebu to know more about our culutre, people, heroes etc. Like, why we go to Paris? to see the Eifel tower. Why we want to go to Jamaica? to see and hear more Reggae, right?
Why foreigners go to Cebu, i hope its not the *** tours....
i'm a resident in mactan and i share the same culture with my fellow cebuanos in cebu, mandaue, talisay cities, etc.
diem is right! *** trade is abundant in the country. The *** filming of Japanese nationals in mactan does not even match the businesses of the red light districts in Metro Manila.
Cordova tried hard to have a distinct cultural celebration (Dinagat & Bakasi Festivals) apart from its neighbor - Lapulapu City - and they seemed to be successful with it.
i am assuming the thread starter himself is NOT from the island of Mactan, IMO.
if we talk about Mactan's culture, the culture itself has been deeply rooted in the community, in the people, the inhabitants of Mactan. just because there has been a media hype about *** tours doesn't mean Mactan has lost its cultural value. a lot of foreigners who visit Mactan island are there to experience what Mactan has to offer. It's so bad and degrading to see Mactan as a den for *** tours, it's unfortunate.
why can't we promote Mactan island instead? and how are you so sure that these "*** tours" are only seen in Mactan and not in some parts of Cebu?

Most foreigners here come as tourists, while some as investors. Generally tourists coming here for relaxation and fun~ and it really depends on the person and his/her own definition of fun. If its wholesome, then they come to the islands for the beaches, the coral reefs, the food, the culture and lifestyle other than what they're used to at home-- if its not wholesome-- hey... c'est la vie.
And there are people who just don't go to Paris just for the sights or to Jamaica for the sounds-- these places have their own problems with the *** trade.
[b]If one is really serious about this issue, then please report any such illegal activities to the proper authorities and help in projects that promote Cebu and Mactan island tourism positively...
Such as? Well, enviromental conservation efforts could be one of them. Cebu and its neighboring islands is home to unique wild and marine life-- some so rare that it can only be found here!

I agree with chad and cherokee they got the point.
I applause Gov. Gwen's suroy-soruy sugbo and Sitoy's bakasi festival. That is what i meant. maybe i just didnt make my thead clear enough. But thank you guys for you comments it really help a lot.
I think what the threader here is saying is our options to choose directions. really really bites eh?
