For now those who wish to get the certification sa Oracle, diretso na 9i cause ang 8i was officially retired last year around December, pero kadtong naa nay certification, they can still take an exam for upgrade.
I have a lot of books for 8i, but its not practical to study 8i if 9i maoy coverage sa exam, but they're still a good reference for beginners who know nothing about the subject matter.
I heard nga naay testing center for Oracle naa sa Mandaue. I duno exactly where but maybe if we check the Oracle website they can provide information on accredited testing centers sa Cebu.
A friend of mine, told me, that in the Philippines, there are only about a hundred people who are Oracle certified. Most who work in IT, kasagaran dili certified. It's a definite plus if you are certified. I agree that without practical knowledge useless ang certification, BUT, it's impossible nga makakuha ka ug certification without really burying yourself into the application aspect kay the scope is really too broad. Besides, as you progress with the certification, you also need to undergo a training session with Oracle cause it's required for the higher certifications like OCP or OCM. For OCAs, it is easier to work as a member of an IT team. Mas humot gyud ka, if you have the certification.
I think, it's even possible to take the exam for OCA, online. And lately naa sa'y gipang-offer nga discounts for the exam.
Ako, I don't work with Oracle but I managed to download the Oracle Enterprise Edition software. You can download it for free from the official oracle website but it requires too much memory sa computer. So that's what I'm working on right now to prepare for the certification.
