I expect highly from this series. They've oiled their hype machinery well, so I hope they live up to the hype. I was a fan of the original MariMar, and I admired that show because the characters themselves, while stereotyped, exuded their own unique charm.

I'm a fan of ABS teleseryes but somehow I'll be tuning in to GMA-7 for this one.

yes we often hear of film adaptations, comic book adaptations, theatrical adaptations, etc.

writers often use the terms "remake" and "adaptation" interchangeably though. Ugly Betty is often referred to as "an (loose) adaptation of the popular Colombian telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea" or "a remake of the...."

"Siyempre gusto ko naman po maging mabait. Ayoko naman na sa tanang buhay ko kontrabida ako kasi ang tingin na sa akin ng mga tao sa totoong buhay kontrbida ako," pabirong comment ni Katrina Halili nang tanungin siya kung gusto niyang mag-try ng ibang role bukod sa pagiging kontrabida.

Sa presscon ng Marimar kagabi, August 7, sa Studio 3 ng GMA-7, nabanggit ng dating StarStruck Avenger na bagaman okay lang sa kanya ang mga kontrabida roles, gusto rin niyang masubukan na gumanap ng ibang karakter.

Matatandaan na madalas na kontrabida roles ang napupunta sa kanya simula nang maging Dark Darna siya sa fantaseryeng Darna.

"Ayaw ko na sanang magkontrabida kasi ayaw ko ngang natatatak ako ng parang kontrabida, iyon 'yung naging problema ko sa totoong buhay kasi parang iyon ang tingin sa akin ng mga tao, maldita. Like iyong mga pictorials ko sa FHM akala bold star ako. Akala ganun iyong ugali ko, masama iyong ugali ko," paliwanag ni Katrina.

Ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit noong una ay alangan siyang tanggapin ang role na Angelica sa Marimar. Aniya, "Akala ganun iyong ugali ko, masama iyong ugali ko....Teka muna, bakit ganun?' So parang napaisip ako."

Sa katunayan, nang pinanood daw niya ang movie ng Marimar, nasabi daw ni Katrina na, "Never kong gagawin 'tong Angelica."

Ngunit kalaunan ay napapayag din siya. "Pero noong kinausap ako, in-offer sa akin, in-explain sa akin 'yung story so parang nag-decide ako, kinausap ko si Tita Wilma, okay na."

Hiniling nga lamang ni Katrina na baguhin ang ilang bagay mula sa original na Angelica. Salaysay ni Katrina, "Sinabi ko, ‘Pwede bang iyong hair ko ganito, papa-straight ko na lang ng black? Tapos maghe-headband na lang ako. Gagawin kong fashionable na lang si Angelica.' Tapos 'yun pumayag sila, so pinaglalaruan ko na lang [ang character] ni Angelica sa pananamit niya at sa hitsura niya."

Bilang panghuli, nilinaw ni Katrina na kahit puro kontrabida roles ang nao-offer sa kanya ay masaya pa rin siya sa kanyang trabaho sa GMA-7. Natutuwa din siya dahil hindi siya nawawalan ng projects simula nang matapos ang StarStruck. Aniya, "Okay naman po ako sa ibinibigay sa akin ng GMA-7. Happy naman po ako sa ibinibigay sa akin."

Actually, dati pa akong kinukuha para mag-artista pero priority ko ang pag-aaral ko. Nakapagtapos ako at nakapag-commercial. Nakilala ko si Popoy tapos pinahanap ako ni Tita Malou para i-partner kay Oyo, tapos doon na nagsimula
