CEBU, Philippines - This was the advice given by the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) as traffic is expected to build up starting this week following the kick off of the P400 million road projects being implemented in five of the city's thoroughfares.
Ret. Major Erwin Ermac, Team's operation manager, said that of the five major road projects, only the P44.5 million road rehabilitation and drainage improvement along A.S. Fortuna Street has been started so far.
Ermac said that the four other projects are also supposed to start this week as per advisory of the Sixth District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways-7.
When road works in A.S Fortuna Street started last week, Ermac said they already received some complaints from the public that their 30-minute ride to Cebu City has now become one hour.
"Let's always hope for the best but expect also for the worst to come," said Ermac.
DPWH-7 has announced earlier it will implement P400 million worth of road projects in Mandaue City starting next month.
Since most of these projects will take almost a year to finish, officer-in-charge and district engineer Renault Ricardo said the public is expected to experience traffic woes.
Ricardo said the projects will include the repair, rehabilitation and retrofitting of Maguikay flyover at a cost of P17.6 million, awarded to PLD Construction for a working period of 190 calendar days.
The 360-calendar day rehabilitation and improvement of drainage on Hernan Cortes St. from corner Cabancalan to S.B. Cabahug Street will cost P45.3 million and has been awarded to Square Cube Construction.
Rehabilitation and drainage improvement of A.S. Fortuna Street from Cabancalan to M. Logarta Street has been appropriated P44.5 million and warded to by P.B. Obial Construction, also for a working period of 360 calendar days.
Rehab and drainage improvement of Plaridel Street will cost P44.2 million and will be worked by Jegma Construction and Dev't. Corp. for 360 calendar days.
Construction, improvement and rehabilitation of drainage facilities along A.S. Fortuna Street from corner M.C. Briones Street onwards has been earmarked P44.6 million, which will be a joint venture between WTG Construction and Virlo Construction and Dev't. Corp. for 360 calendar days.
For the rehabilitation and drainage improvement of M.L. Quezon Street, a P43.7-million budget has been awarded to WTG for 360 calendar days while repair and improvement of causeway on Ouano Ave. from Cebu International Convention Center towards A. Soriano Street will cost P44.2 million to PLD Construction for 150 calendar days.
Finally, installation of center island and landscaping on A.C. Cortes Avenue by E.G. and I Construction will take P26.7 million to be worked within 80 calendar days. (FREEMAN)
