Marco Belinelli's quick-release on his jumpshot is awesome. He's definitely one of a few in this batch of rookies to look forward to in the years to come.

Memphis to finalize deal with Casey Jacobsen

Casey Jacobsen signed a one year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. Jacobsen, a sharpshooting guard, last played for both the Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans Hornets during the 2004-05 season.

Jacobsen is expected to bring in more shooting accuracy for the Grizzlies who's already got Mike Miller.

Suns, French Team clash over Boris Diaw

An insurance issue could keep Suns forward Boris Diaw from playing for France in the upcoming European Championships.

The French newspaper L’Equipe reported Monday that the Suns will not allow Diaw, who signed a $45 million extension with Phoenix last summer, to practice or play for France unless the national team obtains a specific insurance policy that would absolve the Suns of paying the contract in the event of injury. That information was confirmed by an NBA source.

Such a policy, which would likely cost in excess of $100,000, would specifically cover Diaw’s troublesome back problems, which cost him nine games last season and bothered him over much of the second half of the season.

The French apparently believed the Suns wouldn’t stand in the way of their national team captain playing for his country even without the insurance, but Phoenix made its intentions clear during a recent conversation. And Diaw was absent from the initial team workout.

If insurance is secured before the tournament begins in early September, it would clear the way for Diaw to play.

    More of the Suns

The Suns are keeping an eye on veteran forward PJ Brown if he's interested and decides to play for Phoenix so they could fill in the void left by Kurt Thomas.

Melvin Ely, Trevor Ruffin, Brian Skinner, Michael Sweetney and even Chris Webber are also some of the Suns' considerations, but the drawback, just like Brown, all would require more than the minimum salary amount for a veteran to attract.

    Indiana Pacers

Kareem Rush, Travis Diener, Andre Owens and Stephen Graham are all new names for the Indiana Pacers, unpopular names that would probably not be sending crowds of people to the Conseco Fieldhouse, but for Larry Bird, that's not really a problem. Bird believes that it will do good for the Pacers in the long run. "We're going to get players, maybe they don't have the biggest names in the league, but they all fit a style coach (Jim) O'Brien wants to play," Bird said during a news conference Monday to announce Diener's signing.

Trade rumors about star forward Jermaine O'Neal have all died down, but fast forward to next season, Bird never mentioned about O'Neal playing for Indiana next season, but still do hope that the 6'11 forward/center will still wear the Pacers uniform next season.

Hmm... Something tells me a JO's gonna be playing somewhere else during the midseason.

Except for Kobe's game winner for the blue team, mingaw man ang Lakers. After re-signing forward Luke Walton signing guard Derek Fisher for a second stint with the team, latest news is that the Lakers have re-signed reserve center Chris Mihm who missed the whole of last season recovering from a surgery on his right ankle.

Rookies Marc Gasol and Sun Yue's condition with the team is still uncertain. No new faces for the Lakers so far, except for returnee Derek Fisher and draft pick Javaris Crittenton. Aaron McKie, Smush Parker and Shammond Williams are all still in the free agency.

    Minnesota Timberwolves

In an attempt to buyout the remaining contract of Troy Hudson, team owner Glen Taylor and Hudson's agent exchanged buyout proposals to determine if an agreement can be settled.

Hudson has three years and almost $19 million left on his contract and is seeking to cut ties with the team based on his uncertain future. The final year of Hudson's deal is guaranteed only if he reaches a number of performance incentives during the 2008-09 season, including a minimum number of games played.

    Shaq-Kobe matchup shelved

After three years, the NBA and ABC concluded the novelty has worn off Shaq vs. Kobe/Heat vs. Lakers on Christmas. Instead, word is the NBA will have the Heat play in Cleveland on Christmas, creating a Dwyane Wade vs. LeBron James matchup.

Though the schedule circulating is tentative, Heat-Cavs is expected to be one of two ABC games that day, a league source said. Miami is tentatively set to open at home against Detroit on November 1st.
