IF I were the investor on this project, I'd dig deeper into the why's and how's of the now defunct SM Skating Rink in Cebu. I'd focus more on the important aspects of it ie ROI's, capital, projected lifespan analysis for equipment service life and projected market. this is a very big undertaking that needs a huge investment. for sure it won't work if I would still have to rent for space where it would be located. a local skating rink manufacturer/maintenance company would help but the number of die-hard skating crowd would be the determining factor of its success... and failure. best bet would be inside a mall where a regular crowd is readily available everyday and most specially on weekends. but alas, there's just a handful of malls aside from SM that would probably take the plunge.
IF projected ROI is between 6 to 8 years, then we would have a big problem in our hands by the 4th or 5th year of operation. for sure it would be popular in the first couple of years, three the most. but when curiosity and excitement wanes, a couple of dozen avid figure skaters and maybe some out-of-towners skating on weekdays won't pay the bills. by then, most of the rink equipments would need major repair/maintenance or worse, replacement. that, for sure, would leave a bitter taste in the investors mouth.

nice man naa ice skating rink dri..at least..naay tambal sa mga tao nga nag long og ice skating rink pariha nako..*Frustrated figure skater* ...but on the other hand it will be a challenging investment...wala man gud ta ka know if a lot or majority of the people gnhan ba...or kung gnahan man pirme ba mu adto.

Compare to the investor here in Cebu ang mag maintenance naa ra gyud dre sa CEBU kay naa may
Ice Rink company dre..
And even if gamay ra ang mag ice skating, the ice skating rink would draw more crowds. Which gives these crowds something to watch, and, well.. they stay longer at the mall. More people means mas muginnancya ang mall as a whole KAY MAS DAGHAN MAN MUADTO SA ILANG MALL..
i met ramiscar yesterday and talk about this and he shared on it....

you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know the intricacies of this business venture. everything can be researched on the internet. when you talk about SM MegaMall in Manila, please bear in mind that geographically speaking, that area has about 5 times the population of Cebu. please add to that: they have more purchasing power compared to those in Cebu. that means they cater to a much bigger audience which has a lot more money to spend. and like what I've said earlier, the bigger the populace, the bigger the chance of having a good number of loyal customers. the bigger the number of customers, the bigger the chance of success. that's very basic.
with regards to SM City Cebu closing its ice skating rink, please bear in mind that the maintenance costs (projections) are a given. so even before that rink was built, the management already knew when and how much the cost of maintaining the facility would be. and by closing shop instead of continuing it's operation, they already compared the numbers (income and overhead) and probably saw that they were at a losing end, thus its closure.

as what I've said, having a local ice skating rink company would help but still business is about profits and losses. if at the end of the day the bottomline would still be in red then why prolong the agony? do you understand that?
please ask your friend who works for the Ice Skating Rink company and have him/her post the calculations here of putting up a rink. from the capital needed, monthly overhead, maintenance schedule/cost, projected hours needed (monthly) to break-even and ROI etc etc.. let's start from there.
by computing those important data, they would already know what the magic number would be (daily average no. of hours) just to break-even. 'coz for sure if the weekend hourly totals can't cover up the lost hours (deficits) on weekdays then that would be a disaster. they know that and I don't have to evaluate any further. just show the numbers that's all we need.

please don't tell your prospect "even if gamay ra ang mag ice skating" 'coz by then you'd have lost this business deal and probably lost your job in the process. know the right words to say and "even if gamay ra ang mag ice skating" is not one of them. are you selling a product here or telling them not to buy from you?
investors are only interested in those people who would use the rink and not those who would just watch from the sidelines. rink income is generated by the fees charged to those who would use the facility and not to those who are only there to watch. if I only wanted people to gather around, I don't need a skating rink (which needs electricity constantly to maintain it at a certain temp thus adding up expenses every minute) to do that. an entertainment center (like the one they have now) would do the job and with less money spent.
whatever income generated by the rink is for the rink business alone. whatever income generated by the other businesses in the mall it's theres and not added into the rink business' kapish?
