(UPDATED 10:38 AM) Twenty-two were confirmed dead while around 20 others were injured when a passenger bus fell off the Skyway near Bicutan, Monday morning. The death is based on information from the Philippine Red Cross.
But in a phone interview with ANC, Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group Spokesperson Supt. Elizabeth Velasquez, said the number of fatalities is at 18.
The bus was on the way to Pacita Complex, Laguna.
According to Mel Mauricio, a traffic enforcer in Brgy. Marcelo Green, Parañaque City, the bus fell on the closed-van from Skyway to the service road.
As of posting time, rescuers continue to pull the victims from the wrecked bus.
Authorities are still trying to investigate the cause of the accident, which has paralyzed
traffic in the area.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the franchise of the Don Mariano Transit, said LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez in a phone interview with ANC.
