    Default Pacquiao-Rios a flop

MANILA, Philippines – Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer minced no words when asked about the recent pay-per-view fight between Filipino boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios in Macau.

“I bet you that Pacquiao will never again fight in China. You know why? Because it was a flop,” said Schaefer bluntly in an interview with Boxing Scene.

In the first-ever HBO PPV event to be held outside of the United States, Pacquiao thoroughly dominated Rios over the course of 12 rounds to win via unanimous decision – his first victory since November 2011.

Even though Pacquiao performed well, Schaefer said the event itself was a flop and it was unlikely that Pacquiao will ever fight in China again, adding that Arum’s words immediately after the fight proved it.

“Arum is not going to say it was a flop, but it was a flop. Look how quickly he changed his tune (about Pacquiao no longer fighting in the United States). The event was barely over, and he was already announcing Pacquiao’s next fight for the United States,” Schaefer pointed out.

“It must not have been such a great experience,” he added.

On Thursday, Arum announced that the Pacquiao-Rios fight generated only around 500,000 pay-per-view buys, but Schaefer told Boxing Scene that his sources informed him that the number was closer to 300,000 to 350,000.

Either way, it is a disappointing number for Pacquiao, as some of his recent pay-per-view events – including his December 2012 fight against Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez – generated more than one million PPV buys.

Looks like no more Macau fights for Manny.

The numbers are not bad since the fight was not held in the US.

This thread and the news is a classic Media sensationalize story AND people biting from the story.

the media assumed that it is a "flop" by bringing in a title that emphasizes its a flop without cross checking the fact that it was held outside the US, and comparing PPV fights that are held outside in the US.
its the classic the media style for insinuating something based from their own opinion vs fact.

i dont think ang venue ang hinungdan ana..... udto man gni gi hold ang fight pra lang ma accomodate ang u.s. viewers....

dghan lng jd cguro di interesado sa fight coz of pacquiao's last 2 losses..... unya ang kontra pa jd ky iladong "mediocre" fighter ra....

Yeah definitely... I think ang quality sa fight maoy hinungdan. And personally, ako mismo has been buying Pay-per-View on the last 10 fights of pacquiao, but this time, wa na.

Para sa ako, namura ra to ug tune up fight ni pacquiao... We all knew that Rios is no match sa kang pacquiao bsan asang angle. Nindot ani, Pacquiao-Bradley 2, Mayweather-Pacquiao, Providnikov-Pacquiao (which I doubt mahitabo)...
