MANILA - President Benigno Aquino on Thursday urged media to accurately report the humanitarian disaster in the country following the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda.

Aquino, in message read by Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma Jr. during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas' (KBP) conference at the Clark Freeport Zone, said media should also report about stories of hope and not just tragedy.

"We can all do more, and today, I would like to make an appeal for greater accuracy in reports," he said.

"In the same way that you have used your media coverage to give this tragedy a very real and human face, and to move others to action, you can also use your role to uplift the spirits of the Filipino people - to find stories of resilience, hope, and faith, and show the world just how strong the Filipino people are," he added.

Aquino also told the KBP that it will play a crucial role in the implementation of the integrated service digital broadcasting-terrestrial system (ISDB-T) developed by Japan.

He said the new system is aligned with the government's objective of zero-casualty in times of calamities.

He said ISDB-T has a built-in early warning system to enable people with TV sets, mobile phones and other hand-held gadgets with TV receivers to receive early warning announcements and advisories from the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council.

It has also a built-in mobile transmission that can send early warnings to more than 100 million mobile phone users in the country at the shortest possible.

"You in media have certainly done its part. No one will forget how many of your news teams risked life and limb to cover the storm," he said.

Let The Blame Games begin, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

As a footnote, let's add in a quote dedicated to this lovely dude.

"National leaders who find themselves wilting under the withering criticisms by members of the media, would do well not to take such criticism personally but to regard the media as their allies in keeping the government clean and honest, its services."

    --Quoted, ironically, from Cory Aquino

He wants accurate media reports? karon pa?
When at the midst of the typhoon yolanda while everyone esp. us in the visayas are anticipating the arrival of the eye are watching the television waiting for news.... ang iyang MANGHUD gasige pag pasalida anang iyang show nga KRIS TV ga suroy2x sa mga balay nya nang himantay unsa kanindot ang mga lingkoranan? While at the time of ondoy, habagat, hostage crisis, etc. nahurot ang airtime?

that time ang CNN ug BBC ga cover naman gani sa typhoon... this country is sick! Manila show know their priorities! Their imperialistic approach is strangling the people of the provinces.

Accurate Media Reporting which means all reports should be favorable to his government no matter how lacking it is.

Then there's Kris Aquino blurting on TV, "Saan ba puedeng bumili ng 100 sacks of rice?". Do she have to broadcast it?
