That's very specific. It's like the employee is only good for 6 months project. But when you hire, you should look for 'good developers' with good knowledge and foundation of data structure and algorithm, OO concept and design (design patterns), programming Language, performance optimization, writing secure code, understand Operating System, and understand the technology that had been for a while like Socket/HTTP, SQL, HTML, DOM and etc.

on business man point of view, i might agree on your opinion...but thats it a business man opinion... its bang for my buck... but as a guy who codes... not good... coz it is very prone to abuse... thats why hire somebody to be a screw driver not a swiss army knife... this is taken from a personal experience both applicant and the one who interview/test an applicant....

It's not screw driver and Swiss army analogy. Nowadays the guys who can code can also design UI (javascript, html, css), administer OS and configure webservers. They are called full stack developers. These people were evolved like that because of the competitions i.e. nowadays HS kids can make websites.
