Are they strictly inspected to be earthquake proof??
cebu is not immune to earthquake infact we are already hit multiple times since the late 80's... beside cebu is sitting on top of a limestone deposit which is more prone to sinkhole... now are the building strong enough to withstand magnitude 7.2? i cant say coz it depends on the contractor who built it... it is better to asked this people.... in cebu we have couple dormant fault line on the north cebu... and dont forget the dormant volcano on the north... is cebu still safe? yes... cebu is still safe... as long as construction are built according to specification and standards...

though i heard that most building here in cebu particularly diha sa IT park is build using japanese building specs... and they are using spring or rubber as shock absorber... heard lang ni nako... but cant confirm...

with regards to earthquake proof it is already considered during the design stage..for a structural engineer to design a structure he/she considers different loads namely: dead load (the weight of the structure it self), live load (diff. values based on the type of structure built), wind load (forces exerted by winds specially for high rise bldg.) and earthquake load (as the name implies for earthquake). Then there is a factor of safety for the loads when incorporating sa structure.

example: Weight = 1.4DL+1.7LL+1.2EL (kalimut nako if sakto ba ang sa EL)

    P.S.:

Same contractor ug engineer sad ang gabuhos nga wala pa inspection kay gadali daw. Pag check nako ddto pra lang ma accommodate ila request kay delayed na, nakalimtan ug butang intermediate beam ending ila gi block out to nga area. Next day ask ang ila Manager nako why ingon ato ang buhos akoa gi ingnan nga nakalimtan nila ang beam..Astang gipangasab an

murag Earthquake resistant structures ang mas maayo i tawag

Earthquake resistant structures - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Earthquake-resistant structures are structures designed to withstand earthquakes. While no structure can be entirely immune to damage from earthquakes, the goal of earthquake-resistant construction is to erect structures that fair better during seismic activity than their conventional counterparts.
