What you are reffereing to is the dehumanization of a target which is used on many soldiers in wars, i.e. WWII, the Japanese had been portrayed to be less than humans and the Germans to be demons from hell thus are much more justifiable to kill and lighter on one's conscience.
Another one is the repeated training of soldiers of shooting, stabbing and other attacks on a dummy which conditions their minds.
I'm not saying that this is bad, but it is a necessary trait for a soldier to have in order to survive and win the day, kill or be killed and on command that is. That is one of the sacrifices a soldier must endure in service of our country which pays them less than a stupid athlete.
