As much as I like "bisrock", and as much as I like it to last, it just doesn't have enough talent and material to really make it a legitimate genre. More and more bands are going the novelty route, which I admit is funny at first, but at the same time pointless, and gets irritating when radio stations play them over and over again. I know there are exceptions, but right now, "bisrock" is more like Max Surban on steriods.

So I wish it wasn't, but sadly, as it stands right now, "bisrock" will be nothing more than a fad.

Genres are formed by sets of conventions, and many works cross into multiple genres by way of borrowing and recombining these conventions. The scope of the word "genre" is usually confined to art and culture...

there's a genre called j-pop, sweddish metal, kraut-rock, viking metal, etc etc. mao nga natawag ni sila ug genre
(or sub-genre) mainly due to the theme of their songs and tungod sad sa ilang lyrics.

It would never be a fad if more people would "push the envelope" of musicality, so to speak. And even if it would be nothing but a mere fad, it still would have a fat chance of making into the annals of Cebu music history, as opposed to dime-a-dozen english-speaking no-hit-wonder bands who come and go in the scene.

and mind you, half of Max Surban's total playlist consists of heartfelt love songs.

Exactly my point. How many of these "bisrock" bands are "pushing the envelope" of musicality?

Don't get me wrong, I like and support "bisrock" a lot and I wish it to succeed. The fact that these bands are writing their own material (in bisaya, I might add), as oppose to just doing covers, is nothing to sneeze at. And no doubt, it will be in the annals of Cebu music history.

However, right now, for every one good "bisrock" song, there could be a dozen crappy ones. There is not enough material to sustain it... not yet anyway.
