ok,.... i need help with my AE86,.....
the exhaust is loud,..... it has a custom high rise headers / dummy CAT / stock or cheap resonator / 2.25" piping and a Tananbe style canister (over diff)
i already change the muffler and resonator

its maybe 30 - 40 percent more quiet from when i got it,..... but its still sounds alittle loud to me,..... (it sounds like a WRX STi with a modified I/H/E)
i have 2 options,..... replace the dummy CAT with a MagnaFlow CAT converter by Car Sound or replace the dummy CAT with another oval style resonator
im also thinking that since this 4AGE is fully built
-port polished large port head
-bored .50mm oversize

-HKS 256/264 cams w/ 8.1 lift
-small port bottom end
-t3 cam gears

is there a way to quiet down the exhaust with the modification this engine has??
i dont think it would hurt if you would put a quieter exhaust for a daily drive and put your current one in for track use. some guy at hondaclub.ph has a supercharged b18c5 powered SiR and he's still using the stock exhaust
just slap in the stock exhaust, could also give it the sleeper look, and sound

i ran out of ideas on how to quiet my exhaust down without restriction,..... (im OK with installing a Hi-Flow CAT converter)
im also thinkin' that it might not be possible to quiet it down with a free flow exhaust,....
you can never quiet it down with a free flow exhaust. you want quiet right? stock exhaust. just change it on track days
the stock exhaust system is gone,..... but thats a good idea to,... have a 2" piping for daily driving (this will cost another pretty penny)
i wish i had a lifter,.... so that i dont have to go to the shop,... i can install it myself,...
what about the muffler?? use the 2.25" MagnaFlow muffler or get a stock muffler

ok,..... since the carb has a 4 jet intake,..... its getting alot of air,..... so what about the air going out(once the stock exhaust or 2" piping is installed)
i know what i need to do,...... tune the carb down for daily driving so that i wont kill gas like my friends 4.6L Mustang GT
as i said in previous post, there's this guy at hondaclub.com.ph with a supercharged b18c5 and is still using the SiR exhaust. and that's what he is using during track days. and he's very good. one of the best drivers of honda club philippines and a very good tuner too. he did all the tuning (ecu and engine) and swap+supercharger himself. before that, he had a turbo on his b16 and still used the stock exhaust. i bet his car is sucking more air than yours and its still running VERY well. i'm pretty sure it would run much better if he would install an aftermarket exhaust. but according to him, he wants his car to be quiet, and look stock.
yes, buying a stock muffler would cost money. but if you really want it quiet, then you should buy one. but for me, if that were my car, i would keep it as it is. you will get used to the noise. and you have another car, a quiet one at that, for taking out girls on dates
regarding the midpipes, i dont think you need a lifter to change that. a couple of jacks will do. just remember to put something under your car to prevent you from being crushed in case the jacks fail.
