@diem, wala pa jud ko naka-adto sa Cebuano Studies Center. There's heavy transitioning going on at the office these last 2 weeks of June so I can't get away just yet.
In the meantime, I've been chasing ideas, as well as writing a bit of poetry and a few musings to keep in practice, heheheh.

[color=navy]@everyone, just thought I'd share what I found on the web.
A Few Words to a Young Writer, from Ursula K. Le Guin, author of the EarthSea Cycle.
Socrates said, "The misuse of language induces evil in the soul." He wasn't talking about grammar. To misuse language is to use it the way politicians and advertisers do, for profit, without taking responsibility for what the words mean. Language used as a means to get power or make money goes wrong: it lies. Language used as an end in itself, to sing a poem or tell a story, goes right, goes towards the truth.
A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers and poets spend their lives learning that skill and art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers stronger, brighter, deeper.

I enjoyed reading the one by Stephen King, and was particularly challenged by Number 5 -- Never look at a reference book while doing a first draft.
I must confess I find the thesaurus quite helpful. And I will argue that, since English is only my second language, the use of a thesaurus in writing a first draft is forgivable. :P
Nevertheless, I shall try to minimize it and see what I can do.
That aside, I unearthed some old files from our server today and found backups of articles I wrote for our monthly employee newsletter (now defunct). I think I wrote a bit better then, certainly with a fresher perspective. Maybe too much work has disillusioned me, heheheheh.
Kurt Vonnegut, u went away too soon.![]()

[color=navy]@galesnostiel, whenever I read about 'rules' of writing, I conjure the face of Elizabeth Swann (aka Keira Knightley), beautiful in anger.
"Hang the code, and hang the rules. They're more like guidelines anyway."
@gareb, it's the passing of the torch bro![]()
