How would you compare the SR325i with the AKG551?

What headphone + amp would you recommend on a budget of abt 25K.
The headphone should both be for portable/mobile and home use, open or closed does not matter.
Use: wide range of music genre from metal to classical

    Thanks sa recommendation.
Say if i'll add another P600 in the equationn, would your recommendation for the headphone be the same?
Your inputs why the HD-600 over the HD-650 and the HE-400.

you need 2k more if you want the 650 or the hifiman but remember these are sale prices from Egghead. HD-650 regular price alone is about 26k na daan. HE-400 is for home use only since its large and heavy just like any other orthos. the Senns are very light. my recommendation is simply based on your budget.

Is a headphone amp worthless on a computer if you don't have a DAC as it only amplifies the sound card?

the soundcard itself is a DAC. but some may prefer to use an external DAC as another soundcard to bypass the computer to have a better soundchip/converter esp in handling/coverting high res audio files. also the soundcard may not be that powerful enough to drive higher impedence headphones so thats where the amps come in handy. you can have an amp to amplify the soundcard and drive the headphone or you can bypass that soundcard, use an external DAC then connect it to an amp, or you can have an external DAC+amp combo. depends on your preference.

    oic.
Assuming the soundcard is not powerful enough to drive higher impedance headphones, would putting:
aa/ an amp only (on the audio out) produce a better improved sound and not just amplify it?
bb/ a dac/amp (on the audio out) trigger the dac and amp or just the amp hence the sound would be the same as aa/
cc/ a usb dac/amp produce a much better sound than the above aa/ setup

I normally listen to my A/V receiver and never on a computer, So i'm new on these area.

It's nice to see more activity in this thread for past few days now, if I may join the boat...

aa/ - depends on headphones. Besides having wider volume range from the amp, given the power it needs some headphones/earphones definitely improve overall sound quality(usually lower frequencies) even at same volume level and flat EQ (but also take note some amps have slight coloration even at flat EQ).

bb/ - if AMP/DAC plugged into the analog audio out(3.5mm headphone jack) only the amplification would take effect.
cc/ - Yes if the sound card in /aa set-up is basic.

In my case, used the FiiO E10 DAC in my entry-level HP laptop, the sound difference is quite obvious.
