But you have to take care of their coat. Dinha ra ka pildihon sa grooming needs but so well worth it gyud coz gwapa man jud.

Shi-Poos are becoming a breed on its own. It's got a lot of very nice health and temperament qualities so far. All dogs are great but having said that, poodles are actually stand alone dogs. They are not even considered dogs - poodles are simply poodles - if there's another animal called poodle, that would be it.

Poodles are known to be the most intelligent breed not only because its very trainable but they really possess the kind of awareness humans have. History of poodles has always been a man's hunting and fishing partner. When they hunt, they don't kill their preys. They are very humane. They just capture the prey and give it to their owner alive. Same with fishing. They swim and catch fish with their mouth and yet, they don't bite to kill the fish. The continental cut actually came about to avoid less drag from their coat when they fish. the pom poms on their legs and upper body were trimmed in such a way to keep them insulated from cold and the one on their tail works like a rudder so their master knows where they are while fishing underwater.

Lahi ra gyud ang poodle. If you want an easy start- to avoid mistakes most first time dog owners make, I suggest you get a poodle IF you still can. It takes a lot to bring the violent temperament of a poodle. they are so patient that it can perhaps tolerate plenty of mistakes.

Other breeds won't be as kind or immune to human mistakes. I made a lot with my first mixed breed. Dog parenting mistakes will have its price later on. I own a total of 19 dogs and all 18 are non-aggressive except for my first mixed breed. I thought at first it must be because she's a mixed breed that's why she's aggressive. i got to meet her sibling, who happens to be the owner's 4th dog. My mixed breed's sibling is so docile - absolutely NONE aggressive, doesn't even growl. And I realized because the owner already know how to raise a dog. In my case, my mixed breed is becoming less and less aggressive but it will probably be impossible to turn off their aggressive tendencies once its out already. Knowing the right thing to do and experiencing owning a dog for the first time are two different stories.

I suggest, get a poodle first. Once you get the hang of taking care of your new pet, perhaps you can later assess if you are ready for another kind of breed

Shihpoos are great too as I said - better than some purebreds i.e. Pomeranian (I have one too) - if you mistake letting a pom develop small dog syndrome, lisod na kaayo usabon. Bigger chances of a pom to develop such than shihpoos.

Piece of advice, be careful with little kids or toddlers. They can hurt your puppy even if they didn't intend to, which very often times triggers your dog's aggression later on. Little kids can cause a lot of harm in dog rearing. Try, as much, to use positive reinforcements. Refrain from negative punishment like leash pulling or putting him on a leash for extended period or caging him for extended periods. Sometimes, your pup can get really really noisy in the middle of the night or they can be rambunctious while you are so busy and if you have a bit of a temper, you may think that hitting your dog one or two times will go unpunished - no, it won't. Some dogs' aggression may not be triggered but the shihtzu in your shihpoo may not tolerate it - so refrain if you can.

You can potty train him by caging him every 4-6 hours, let him out to pee and poop outside or training pad, eat&drink, play for 30 minutes, pee and poop (if they can), then put them back in the cage. You can keep at this for 2 weeks. Never leave them free roaming unattended before 8 months. Also, make sure to socialize your dogs as often as you can - leave him in a doggie day care at least one or twice a week. Dog walking with other dogs is not enough. Allow him to play with other dogs (after mandatory vaccinations are complete though - never before). Deworm with heartworm every 3-4 months (if old school vets), deworm every 3-4 months and heartworm every month (for new vets), maintain anti-flea AT ALL times (ehrlichia is a killer), and groom every month (after 5 months). Empty anal sac (preferably once or twice every 2 weeks), shower once a week (ask groomer which shampoo fits your shihpoo's hair/fur so that it doesn't dry up), brush teeth every week (plaque scaling is expensive) and invest in plenty of dental chews (edible kind), pochero bone is AMAZING at 5 months onward, maintain good quality puppy food (I recommend Holistic for Puppy but if you want cheaper, PetOne for Puppy is not bad at all), load up on vitamins (you can't have too much vitamins). Trust me - it may seem excessive to you but a healthy dog means cheap maintenance. All these expenses will pay off later. The first year is crucial.
