If we make them houses yet don't give them a source of livelihood what do you think these people will do? Sell or rent out those houses and squat again.

And since we did not have enough income to service our debts what happens when the loans mature? Since we may not be able to pay them back then the creditors would then force us to accept the terms and conditions of the loan which was already stipulated when the government applied for that loan. One of these terms is privatization.

Remember that the debt the cory administration left because they failed to make use of the infrastructures and programs of the past admin was so high that the next administration of FVR was forced to privatize some of our government assets such as the energy infrastructure which eventually resulted in high electricity rates.

If you still insist on giving them socialized housing without offsetting it with an improved economy you might as well privatize the bridges, roads, hospitals, and government offices to make up for the budget deficit.
Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor

Ang budget sa urban poor housing is allocated and then appropriated. Siguro kani atong mga concerns has already been taken into considerations sa commission.

I had lived as a squatter before, I know a lot of people in squatter areas. I know they are not lazy, I know they work hard. They just don't have the opportunity to have a house and lot of their own.

Both sides nato has very valid and reasonable points. For me, if there's anything that our government can do about it, why not?

Mao mo refuse sila.

meh. i'm willing to help these informal settlers if they're willing to help themselves

but if you see these squatters nga himoon rang bakasyonan ang mga hinagoan natong kwarta sa paghatag natog balay nila unya mobalik ra gihapon sa pagskwating, then they don't deserve help, they deserve jail

i know this because i happen to be a volunteer for Gawad Kalinga. it frustrates me to see how you try to help these people but more than half of them just take advantage of your goodwill. mobalik ra gihapon pag skwating kay naa kuno ilang panginabuhi didto pero obviously they're just after easy money. some are not even willing to learn in spite of the programs we give to them. so for me, they should only be given one second chance. kung gahi pa gihapon ang ulo, then bahala na sila sa kinabuhi. nag usik-usik ra sila sa atong kwarta nga makabenefit unta ang laing mas deserving

Yes we are all too familiar with the bloated and redundant government agencies that we have. It is much better to streamline them for better service but nobody wants to get rid of them anyway since employees get security of tenure. Anyway the point I am trying to come across is that what happened to the more viable and better long term solution this government promised us like the PPP projects? This will definitely help in generating jobs especially for the marginalized. Giving them houses to live in is just and end in itself, a house nothing more. If they can't have skills and a source of livelihood then they will simply return to what they do best.

It is good that you saw through it all and managed to get out, not all people are lucky enough or smart enough to do that. An alternative would be to stay in the provinces and work hard from that point, get an education and land a job here in the city.
