Update on the mk2s.
After burning in for 10 hrs, I think the sound settled down a bit. Been listening for a few hours and here is my initial impressions. Disclaimer though, I'm no expert audiophile, I just want to hear more from my music.
Plugged it straight to my notebook using VLC player no eq. Listened to mixed tracks and genres, rock, pop, disco, classics, bossa and jazz. And in different mp3 quality too from 320kbps cbr to vbr v0 to flac and of course 128kbs mp3 too.
Bass, these cans are definitely no audiophile phones, bass-heads will surely like this. Bass is good, extension and impact, though not as tight and punchy as I would like it to be but there are lots of it. Feels like strapping two sub-woofers to your head if you really want to push it.
Mids are more forward compared to the M50 that I have tried, there is more presence but clarity is a bit lacking for my tastes, it is more emphasized compared to the M50 but lacking in resolution. Guitar strings not as emphasized but still there, vocals not as detailed to me compared to Ety hf5 but still good. Instrument separation is not as defined but if you listen carefully you can still pick them out.
Highs are great, nice and sparkly, not sibilant and non-fatiguing too. This area is a strong point coupled with the good bass makes these phones good for techno, dance and electronica music. And did I mention that they can go loud, very loud like x-mini maxs
Fit and finish is good, seems to be nicely built externally, pads are uncomfortable and the clamping force is not helping either. I feel like my head is being squished by a vise and the pads feels like knuckles to my ears. Got 2 cables, a short straight one and a coiled longer one. Size of the ear cups is too big to be an on-ear but too small to be over-ear. So i guess people will have comfort issues with these. Aside from the fluke first unit that I got, the replacement seems to be up to par as others describe them to be.
Final note, audiophile cans these are not but if you want a fun sounding can that you can enjoy rockin your head with, these are worth considering, they are not a good all rounder but they can be fun. But personally for the price, and on hindsight, excluding the detachable cables and build quality, I'm more leaning towards the M50s sound if you can overlook its shortcomings. Now I'm itching for one...
Will listen to them some more coupled to the E17, will see if I warm up to its sound signature.![]()
My M50's undergone maybe total 80 hours of burn in and stress test, hehehe.. now they sound even better.. you can hear instruments that you cant hear when your using an ordinary headphones.. bass was just enough to satisfy my needs.. i conclude that most of the good things that you heard about M50's is true.. It will never let you down.. It can handle different kind of genre, play any genre and the M50's can handle it with no problem (coz my playlist is like chopsuey, hehehe, from rock, techno, acoustic, to pop and rnb, hehehe)
@C'thulhu
like they say in the reviews, when you use the mk2, its like your putting two sub woofers in your ears, if your a basshead for sure you will be satisfied with it.
@wak_wak Hmm... Sounds like you're pushing me towards the M50s...
Hehehe.. Actually bro its up to you and depends on the sensitivity of your ears if they will love the clarity and the balance, i mean try it first then decide, make a playlist on your phone or ipod, maybe 3 to 5 songs in different genre that you loved most then use them to audition the headphones, so you can conclude if the M50 is for you =D
