why danao? why not improve the existing manufacturer like Safariland, Shooters, ARMSCOR and UDMC.... and theirs FerFrans also... starting from scratch is more tedious and expensive than improving the existing one, beside we already have GA which are already manufacturing AFP arms and adding more production line to support both AFP and PNP...

And here's the official Press Release from the government.

DND acquiring 2 strategic sealift vessels for navy

MANILA, June 22 (PNA) -- The Department of National Defense (DND) announced that it is acquiring two strategic sealift vessels (SSVs).

DND bidding and awards chair Undersecretary Efren Q. Fernandez said the ships have an approved budget contract of P4 billion.

The money will be sourced from the AFP Modernization Act Trust Fund.

It will use to improve the transport and lift capabilities of the Philippine Navy.

Interested parties must be able to deliver the SSVs within 1,095 calendar days (with the first ship to be delivered within 730 calendar days of the opening of the letter of credit and the second SSV to be delivered after 365 calendar days from the delivery of the first).

They must also have integrated logistic support for the vessels.

Fernandez said bidders must have completed a similar project from the date of submission and receipt of bids.

He stated that bidding is open to all local and foreign companies provided that they comply with the country's procurement law.

Pre-bid conference will be held on July 2 and bid opening on July 16 at the DND-BAC conference room, basement right wing, DND building, Camp Gen. Aguinaldo, Quezon City. (PNA)
