Hey cool projects such as 3D Games, embedded and frameworks uses ALL the things learned in school... if wla mo karelate and maybe you are in the wrong field
Example:
1) You can see a lot of Data structures and algorithms in the Linux Kernel source code, and also OS theories/concepts discussed in school. That is if you are into such challenging tasks.
2) Data Structures and OOP are heavily used in ALL 3D and 2D games.
and if kamao jd ang Developer and Iapply ang iyang pagka-Software engineer,
a web application can utilize OOP and data structure if he knows how to use these tools right. proper architecture design and layout and boom you have a beautifully written website.
kasagaran sa ako Makita karon kay sak-sak sinagol man ang code, ang webpage na moprocess sa form mao pd ang mo access sa db, spaghetti code gawas

yup foundation lang...keep on reading books while student paka it will help you then do hands-on...then attend formal training.Find a training center for faster learning and be updated sa technology
Actually if I look at it in a different perspective, college gave me most of what I need for my career as a programmer. Why? Because I learned all those data structures, concepts & algorithms. I believed nga if you truly learned this in college kay its already worth it. If strong imo foundation ani nila, no matter unsa ka nga language ibutang it will still look the same and even after working for more than 8 years kay it is still the same. Daghan na ko na try nga language from BASIC, c, java, ruby, python, etc.. kay it will all be the same.
Even if wla ka kabalo sa usa ka language then tagaan ka ug book about it and a problem kay i believe you would still be able to come up with the code. Ang important ra man kay if kabalo ba ka mo solve sa problem. Using the concepts, structures, and algorithms that you know pwede ra gyud ka mo check unsa ang syntax sa language and thats it.
Of course the school can't teach you all those new stuff but believe me, if only you understood what those concepts and algorithms meant, you are already prepared. Of course inig start nimo ug work you will realize that there are a lot of things to learn and it won't ever stop.
I'm sure most of us haven't realized and appreciated some stuff we did in college. Like for example Thesis, to me before it was just a requirement to graduate. Hasol kaayo, naa pa gyuy defend2x. But if I compare it to what I am doing now, it is the same thing!
You will see the problems in the modern world and try to solve it. You will research what needs to be done, what technologies to use and etc. You present it to your customer instead of your teacher and then you get rewarded if you succeed.
But even after all this, I still wish nga i-improve ang curriculum sa mga colleges nato diri like remove all those unnecessary subjects and replace it with courses that is related to our field. Subjects like filipino, rizal, theology. These should have been taught on highschool level instead of college. @_@
ang naka apan man gud mao naa nah mga subject or ni balik ang mga subject from high school is per unit man gud ang bayad sa school. so kung daghan kah ug unit dako kaau ka ug bayranan so dako sad sila ug ma gain gikan sa students. maybe cguro first year 1st sem sa college naa nah sya... until 4th year naa man gihapon ang wala apil nga subject. like focus na untah sa major subject nga mo fit sa imo course... mao nah murag dli kaau ma train ang mga students sa ila field of interest... sa kugihan lang mo research ani... im not saying nga spoonfeed jud ha.
in college, we will only learn the fundamentals of IT. It's not what you think nga neg graduate nimo, you're already an expert in everything IT but it's not. Expertise require experience and time.
mao pero the way things are heading now, murag dakooo na kaayo ang changes in trends nga sa akong opinyon mediocre na kaayo ang gipangtudlo ron s mga IT schools sa pinas.
stop the traditional and shift to the modern method of teaching instead
