The Purge is an upcoming 2013 American horror/thriller film directed and written by James DeMonaco. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey.[1]Originally planned for a May 31, 2013 release; the film was bumped down a week for a June 7, 2013 release instead.[1]
In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity-including murder-becomes legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when citizens can let out their anger without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When one of the children lets a stranger screaming for help into James Sandin's (Ethan Hawke) protected house during the yearly lockdown, a sequence of events begin that puts the families chances of survival in danger. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.
