Going back to the topic. Don't you think the whole Filipino population wla pud naluoy sa fisherman? Of course we did sympathize. Tragedies do happen. Untoward incidents happen.

Bottomline is this...

1. What's done is done, the death was a loss, but we cannot complicate the issue.
2. Bilateral investigation has begun, we need to wait and let the tensions cool off.
3. Initially, Taiwan was simply over-reacting and should also remember that the military assistance rendered by the United States to them is for them to defend from Chinese aggression. Not from it's allies (Philippines).
Using American military wares to hurt one of its treaty allies may have implications against Taiwan. The US may set sanctions against them. So any proxy "mini navy" war between RP and Taiwan will never likely happen.

NBI team finds over 40 bullet holes on Taiwanese boat

Filipino investigators in Taiwan found 40 bullet holes in the vessel on which a Taiwanese fisherman died during an encounter with the Philippine Coast Guard last May 9.

Among the issues the NBI team is probing is whether there was excessive use of force in the incident and whether there was aggression committed by personnel on the Taiwanese boat.

From Pingtung, Taiwan, GMA News' John Consulta reported that the companions of the lone fatality reenacted what they recalled of their encounter with the Philippine patrol ship.

“We will bring to Manila everything that we will gather so we can use it when we make our report,” said Attorney Daniel Daganzo, leader of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) team sent to Taiwan.

The NBI probers said they will also examine the bullet-riddled boat's voyage data recorder, which Taiwanese authorities said shows that the boat was within Taiwanese waters.

In an interview, Taiwanese district attorney Chih Ming Hsieh, chief prosecutor at Pingtung, said that the bullet that struck the fisherman “penetrated the wall of the vessel and hit the neck and went out the back.”

In Manila, the Taiwanese team of investigators said they will question witnesses, including the Philipine Coast Guard crew that manned the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources patrol vessel.

Seventeen coast guard crew presented themselves to the Taiwanese probers for interview, which is expected to last until Friday.

The Philippine Coast Guard is the armed maritime and marine law enforcement unit of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

In a text message, DOTC Secretary Joseph Abaya told news media he is confident the investigation will show the PCG followed their rules of engagement and that the shots fired were consistent with the rules on the use of force. — ELR/HS, GMA News
