Naa man diay karaan na case na sayop ang mga findings ni Dr. Satur. Sa track record lng daan dili lng kana iyang nasayop na autopsy. So ang imng question na ngano i.risk niya ang profession to give a fraud autopsy is a moot.

The Ducayag Case

Those responsible for the death of Mario Alfie Ducayag, who was mauled to death by Gaisano Metro Colon store detectives, should all be charged. But what is happening now is that they are muddling the investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 by issuing conflicting statements.

Chief security officer Mauricio Doblados and house detective Melvin Boyles pointed to Jeffrey Aquino, the store’s closed circuit TV operator, as the one who mauled Ducayag. Aquino, on the other hand, accused Doblados as the one responsible for Ducayag's death.

Nagtulod-tulod na ning mga kanahan karon. Wa may mangangkon. Iyahay pag-libre sa ilang kaugalingon.

Do you believe Doblados when he is also a suspect in this case? His testimony is dubious. If Aquino mauled Ducayag, why didn't he stop him from doing that barbaric act? He is the chief security. “Pack one, pack all,” as the military would say.

In seeking justice, the Ducayags are naturally getting the media and the public’s sympathies. Even the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City offered legal aid to them. But to tell you frankly, I have reservations and I am afraid that the Ducayags might succumb to temptation and accept monetary settlement from the mall's owner.

In my 33 years in this profession, with advocacy and crusade being part of it, I had sad experiences in helping people seeking justice.

When I was still with dyMF Bombo Radyo, I helped the family of a victim of police brutality. A certain Julian Tacatani was arrested by elements of the San Nicolas police for illegal possession of bladed instrument. He was detained overnight. The following day, he died in the hospital. Doctors found bruises and contusions in parts of his body.

When his relatives sought my help, I asked Jose Ayap, chief of the now defunct Metrodiscom, and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to investigate Tacatani's death.

They conducted a joint investigation. Leo Villarino headed the CHR team.

To make the story short, a policeman identified as Josephus Trangia was pinpointed by Tacatani's fellow inmates as the one who mauled the victim to force him to admit to a case of theft.

Trangia was charged with murder. But before he could be arraigned, the victim's relatives opted for amicable settlement. You know how much they received from the accused? Only P14,000. They no longer appeared in hearings. A few years later, Trangia died of massive stroke.

I hope this experience will not happen in the Ducayag case.
