I know this is a tad late but it's still a very interesting read indeed. it goes to show how low they (Ouanos) would go and most importantly reflects who they really are.

I'll just let the election results speak for itself on how their tactics worked.. or did it?.. that is..

Speak out: An insult to our local schools
    By Rameses Victorius Villagonzalo
    Lahug, Cebu City

FIRST of all, I would like to emphasize that I am a Cebu City resident and neither a supporter of Mandaue City mayoral bet Jonas Cortes nor of his rival Jonkie Ouano.

When I read the page A31 political advertisement in the issue of Sun Star Cebu last May 12, 2007, I was enraged and insulted by the comparison advanced therein.

It’s not because one candidate was hit below the belt, but because of glaring fallacies of argumentum ad hominem (against the person), “abusive,” which is the first kind and argumentum ignoratio elenchi (irrelevant conclusion) tending to mislead the reading public.

So what if Cortes is locally educated? Will it follow that a US-educated Ouano is better?

Let us remove the personalities behind the said educational attainment. Will it mean that a US-educated person is better than a Philippine-educated one? I hardly think so.

A plain reading of the comparison reveals a sweeping and erroneous conclusion that a US-educated candidate deserves the post of mayor better than a locally educated candidate, which is, in effect, an insult to our domestic educational system.

And if that’s the way Ouano thinks of our educational system, he better reconsider his position.

Mind you, if I am not mistaken, Atty. Carlo Fortuna is also locally educated in his law degree.
