.........understanding music is a good start. Listen to different kinds of music; jazz, rock, reggae, disco......

and ezra is right, first learn the basic, jam to "simple" songs such as RHCP or maybe Toto. then slowly climb yourself up to more complicated stuff like Neil Peart, Bozzio and Portnoy.

dili simple ang RHCP and Toto uy!! hehehe.. i still can't "plaka" their songs.. hehehe.. however, ever since nag start ko ug drums, wala gyud koy na"plaka" na song..

Damn, i wish kahibalo ko mag "sight read".. sayang.. i never took lessons.. i'm still learning though... some drummer friends of mine have started a "focus group" in a way just to learn more abt drums and to discuss new stuff... we were supposed to meet every monday pero lazy man ko.. i was supposed to be the coordinator.. hehehehe... my BAD!!! hehehe..

TOTO is more complicated (yet easier on the ear) compared to RHCP... RHCP kay straightforward ang grooves then daghan kag mahimo ba, you can make up some stuff around the parts. Same as THE POLICE, simple unya lingaw... it will also train you to keep a groove.

CUJO... I wish I can also sight read.. I can read pero hinay. Maypa mo bai kay naa moy access anang "focus group".. bai, you should check out the Yahoo egroup (pinoydrums) .. friendly kaayo ang community and daghang mga maayo who's very willing to share their knowledge.
