Steps:
Download BetterFlareBuild37.zip
Extract BetterFlareBuild37.zip
Turn off your Flare.
Press Volume Up and Power Button until the screen turns GREEN.
Open RunSetup.bat
Press Enter and Just Follow on Screen Directions
BOOM! BetterFlare V37
Reboot Phone
Download BetterFlarev37Patch.zip or BetterFlarev37Patch - Download - 4shared - Kevin Jan Goc-ong and copy to sdcard/SD_CARD/
Turn off Flare.
Press Volume Up and Power Button until screen turn RED
CWM KEYS: Volume UP = BACK, Volume DOWN = DOWN, PowerButton = OK
Choose "install zip from sdcard"
Choose "choose zip from sdcard"
Choose "BetterFlare v37 Patch.zip"
Choose "YES"
Press back (volumeUP)
Choose "Reboot system Now"

I've used the CM Flare Tool and it upgraded my unit to v31 without ROM selection.

Try installing the Reset Unread SMS app. Click the button to reset unread SMS (even if the app says there's no unread SMS). There's no indicator on the app to show the status of the process, so you'll only know that it's done when you receive a notification that all SMS have been marked as read. According to the reviews on Google Play, you may also need to reboot your phone afterward. Good luck!
