i think it's not such a bad idea...
we the people of the earth depends too much on fossil fuel which we are suffering the effects of it now.. and there maybe no tomorrow if we don't do anything now.. at the best we could just minimize or slow down the effects until we can find a renewable, stable alternate
I think this is a step in the right direction.

British company to put up P1.5-B ethanol plant

BRITISH firm Bronzeoak Ltd., through local unit Bronzeoak Philippines, will spend P1.5 billion to construct a dedicated ethanol plant in the southern province Bukidnon, Representative Juan Miguel Zubiri of Bukidnon said.
The company has purchased a 24-hectare lot in the village of Labuagon in Kidawe town, in the southern part of the province, in preparation for the plant's construction, Zubiri said.
He said the plant would have a capacity of 150,000 liters a day, bigger than a plant Bronzeoak is building in partnership with the National Development Corp. in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental province, in the central Philippines.
He said this was because the Bukidnon plant, under Bronzeoak's Southern Bukidnon Bioethanol Inc., would be a dedicated ethanol production plant and not a co-generation facility like the San Carlos plant.
The San Carlos Bio-Energy Inc. (SCBI) plant is an integrated facility that will have a capacity of 100,000 liters of bio-ethanol a day in its distillery plant.
It will also have a cane milling plant with a throughput capacity of 1,500 metric tons of cane daily, as well as a co-generation power plant that will produce around nine megawatts of power, of which four megawatts will be sold to the main power grid.
It will start commercial operations next year.
Zubiri said Bronzeoak was planning to break ground for the Bukidnon project in June.
The new plant should not take too long to design and construct because Bronzeoak has a blueprint for this type of plant, he said.
Zubiri said the plant would need 8,000 hectares of sugar cane to ensure a sustainable supply of raw materials.
The sugar cane will be acquired from the towns of Dangcagan, Kitaotao, Kadingilan, Damulog and Carmen in Bukidnon and from nearby North Cotabato province, he said.
He said the plant would be situated relatively far from sugar plants "so as not to compete with sugar areas for raw materials.''
Bronzeoak will put up the plant whether or not Congress passes a biofuels bill that proposes financial and non-financial incentives to investors, he said.

HOY...... PHILIPPINES IS IN THE DIRECTION NA TO USE BIOFUEL IN THE COMING YEARS.. MAO BITAW TONG BIOFUEL ACT/LAW NGA NAPIRMAHAN NA....
MAO TONG BALAOD NGA SAGULAN NA UG BIOFUEL ANG GASOLINA STARTING THIS YEAR MAN SIGURO .. THEN MAG INCREASE ANG CONTENT SA PERCENTAGE BIOFUEL SA GASOLINA IN THE COMING YEARS....
AS OF NOW.. PHILIPPINES IS BUSY BUILDING BIOFUEL PLANTS.... NAAY BIOFUEL GIKAN SA TUBO (SUGAR CANE).. NAAY BIOFUEL GIKAN SA TUBA-TUBA.... UG NAAY BIOFUEL GIKAN SA JANITOR FISH.. PERO KINING GIKAN SA JANITOR FISH KAY GI EXPERIMENTUHAN PA FOR PLANT SCALE PRODUCTION... ANG TUBO UG TUBA-TUBA KAY GISUGDAN NA NI.....
WALA NAY MAHIMO ANG MGA BIG TIME OIL AND GAS COMPANY SA PILIPINAS KAY NA-PASS NA ANG LAW ABOUT ANING BIOFUEL...
for me i think its possible, we need to lessen our dependence to oil producing country n for economic reason, if zubiri will win i think he'll fight for this..his attitude will tell..
yes. possible kaau if our leaders have the political will.
kung mo sugot sad atong politicians.. ang uban baya politicians nato, kay dali ra ma bayran... im sure ang caltex, petron, og shell... masuko jud
if India and Myanmar can do it, why can't we?

Foreign Jathropa experts to attend biofuel confab
Tuesday, May 15, 2007
Speakers from India and Myanmar who are experts on the usage of Jathropa, locally known as tuba-tuba, as a feasible source of alternative fuel will be in the country this month to share their knowledge.
Department of Agrarian Reform-7 director Datu Yusoph Mama said the experts’ talk will be one of the highlights of the Biofuels and Feedstocks Conference this coming May 23 and 24 in Manila.
Mama said India and Myanmar have grown rich because of the cultivation and processing of Jathropa into biofuel therefore saving them from being dependent on imported commercial oil.
The conference is initiated by the Philippine National Oil Company Alternative Fuels Corporation in cooperation with Singapore-based Center for Management and Technology.
The Biofuels Act of 2006 took effect May 6, three months after it was signed into law by President Gloria Arroyo.
The Biofuels Act mandates the blending of one percent locally sourced bioethanol blend in all gasoline products in 2009 and 10 percent in 2011.
The said legislature is considered the first of its kind in South East Asia.
The aim of the said conference is to help in ensuring a smooth implementation of the Biofuel’s Act and at the same time promote the use of alternative fuels to reduce air pollution.
It will as well address the country’s reliance on imported fossil fuels. Other sources of alternative fuel include coconuts, palm oils and sugarcane.
Jathropa is considered a feasible source of alternative fuel because it grows in any type of land and needs less supervision.
