President Ramon Magsaysay's Defense Secretary Sotero B. Cabahag, a Mandauehanon, is probably the most prominent National figure ... he was Governor of Cebu ... a member of Congress and Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals ... there is M.C. Briones of the Hi-way fame ... Cong. Jose Briones and Logarta both prominent Mandauehanons ...![]()
The Mandaue City Charter originally legislated our City out of the affairs of the province ... somewhere along the way ... it was amended that we could vote for the provincial officials ... there is no provincial controls whatsoever ... unless we give our consent ...
the Province of Cebu does not give funds to our City ... they cannot review or change/veto our ordinances and resolutions passed by our Council ...
if we had 2 Congressional Districts, it will mean in fiscal terms ... at least 300 Million per annum in pork ... that's 900 Million Pesos for Mandaue alone for 3 years ... not to mention 2 Mandauehanon Representatives as our voice in Congress ...![]()
i cannot see any disadvantages ... if we will have 2 congressional districts ...![]()

i am but you miss my second question regarding tax, funds and others...
i am just a bit disappointed, here in lapu-lapu the admin blames the lone district thing for
the rise of property tax. Just want to get your opinion on that. Would that scenario may happen
in mandaue too?
anyways thanks for the history.![]()
Mandaue City has the lowest real estate and business taxes in Metro Cebu ...... a friend who has a business in Lilo-an and Mandaue with the same capitalization ... he pays more in business and real estates taxes in Lilo-an than in our Mandaue ...
No ... if you become a Congressional District it does not necessarily follow that your taxes will increase ... on the contrary your pork barrel for your Lone District should offset any need to increase taxes ... as the pork barrel for the first 3 years of the Congressional District will reach almost 500 Million pesos ...![]()
^how come that mandaue has lowest real estate and business tax, when it is more urbanized?
sauna pa na or gikunhoran?
the low tax rates started during the tenure of Mayor Boy Cortes father of Mayor JONAS even before our Mandaue became a City ... this was one of the reasons why San Miguel Corporation established a huge brewery in our City ...... it is not the degree of urbanization that determines the taxes but the need to provide services to the public ...
the example that i gave earlier about my friend with a business in Lilo-an ... he says that his business in Mandaue has a bigger capitalization compared to that in Lilo-an but he pays almost 3 times the business taxes there compared to our Mandaue ...![]()
^okies, that makes mandaue business friendly.. i hope it stays like that, may gani wala na nisaka.
