Byousoku 5 Centimeters
(Speed of 5 Centimeters per Second)
ok, this isn't an anime TV series, it's a 3-part anime movie and the best one since Spirited Away came out. i first heard of this anime with Dattebayo's press release when they released a troll episode. then yesterday, i was just checking Baka-Updates to see if there are some new sub releases. i was particularly shocked that it was actually sub by KissSub so i decided to give it a try.
while viewing, i was really amazed by the animation. no kidding, this has got to be the most beautiful animation i've ever seen in my entire life! everything's way too detailed, the angles are well thought of, the colors are very vivid and vibrant, the composition's awesome, truly the work of a very talented digital painter.
moving on to the story, it's said to be based from reality, i'm guessing it's a sad love story, well it's pretty obvious based from the *feel* of the first episode. i don't really think there's a climax or anything, it's a normal love story but i can't understand how i was able to burst my tears while watching it. all i did was sympathize on how awesome the animation is and the next thing i knew, i was already crying. i've been watching some parts of this series this morning and i can't help but just cry. even the teaser still gives me goosebumps.
and the song was also well done. on the first phrases, i didn't really like it, i was a bit reluctant 'coz it seems like it was sung by some old man. i like lively japanese songs so i kinda overlooked this one. but at the chorus part and the theatrical trailer was shown together with the song, the intensity really gave me a different feeling.. never felt this way for an anime for the longest time.
seriously, don't you dare overlook this anime. i recommend this to everyone even if most of the members here likes shonen types of anime... don't you think it's time for a little change?
